I see DTUK are doing a BF code for Pedal Box (only £10 off tho).
Anyone else looking after us?
-
do you have one fitted Coco?
-
Still awaiting my car :(
Was at port last week, might buy one in readiness.
-
getting mine friday ...wanted to do the same ..but thought id enjoy it stock for 500 miles or so then do it to really get the impact of it ...PS DTUK raised the price then put discount on...i looked last week and with no discount for BF as advertised now the new box was 199...not 249 then they add BF discount ....what a load of jokers :)
-
Black Friday has lost its way for me. There are just as good offers on at other times of the year if you keep your eyes peeled.
The first couple of Black Fridays were pretty good, but I thought last year was a damp squib. Anyone notice how we now have to have not only Black Friday but also pre-Black Friday events to stop people waiting until the big day to spend?
If I see something worth having then i'll partake, but really it's become overhyped now.
-
yeah the pedal box has been 199 for ages.... Cheekys gits, they must be like DFS
-
www.autofinesse.co.uk are doing some great deals on detailing stuff!

DTUK trying to scam people, who would have thought that?

And it is exactly the same thing.

I was thinking of getting myself OBDEleven. Trouble is, I'm in an all-Apple devices house. Anyone see any deals for a cheap, none too fancy android tablet?

I was in the same situation as you being an Apple user, so purchased a Amazon Fire Tablet, now reduced to £29.99.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01J90O0N4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Had to manually add the Google app store, but this was easy enough to do (followed some instructions on YouTube).

Oh interesting, so that is actually definitely possible? I had read mixed reports on whether the Amazon tablets would work - many seems to say they don't.!

When I bought OBDeleven a few months back, I just got a cheapo Acer tablet (all Apple here to) and does the job. Considered the Amazon Fire tablet but lots of reports it wouldn’t work, but if it does that’s great, being so cheap.

Good stuff. From a bit of googling it looks like its straightforward enough. I might take a punt on one so, even if it doesn't work its not a total waste, they're a nice little tablet for cheap.

OBd11 does seem like a cool little gimmick but is it really wort while ....all youtube posts focus on the tail lights blinking and sh!t LOL...i mean any serious cool mods that will impact the driver experience ? I know its not a fortune but all in all between a new or used android tablet and the device 100 ...50 more and you get a pedal box that gives you a tangible experience ...also if dealers can pick up on mods such as remaps etc would they be able to see obd11 mods and potentially claim youv'e messed with the ecu etc ...sorry might be a dumb question but feedback and experiences on the above would be great to hear!

Killing the auto start/stop and the soundaktor make it worthwhile. The rest is just a bit of fun mainly but some things are useful.

Awesome GTi have some decent deals on. VWR springs down to 175 which ain't bad.

If it’s a toss up between OBDeleven and a pedal box, go the latter. Then save up for the former. For the price, OBDeleven is worthwhile. I have similar tweaks to above and it’s money well spent imo.

With all due respect you clearly don't know what you're talking about. OBD11 gives you access to a myriad of settings and adaptations (basically the same as VCDS, is VCDS a gimmick also?) and most of them are for the better driving experience, via an interface miles ahead of VCDS and at 1/3 of the VCDS cost... A fraction is mentioned two posts above but there's literally hundreds of other things that you could be after or that you probably did not know they even existed as an option that you can set to your like, there's a reason why VCDS/OBD11 adaptation threads are 50+ pages long... I wouldn't even know where to start with mine: Brakes adjustment, lsd locking adjustment (very significant one), XDS adjustment, disable power cut-out during launching, disable start/stop, disable soundaktor, LED and Xenon adjustments and I haven't even touched on the minor stuff.
I know thousands are driving their cars on 100% stock settings and ignorance is bliss and all but really, OBD11 is one of the most useful stuff you can get for this car if you have even the slight interest to mess with the settings that are already available from the electronics but that the manufacturer would not bother providing you with access to. It can't even be compared to a pedal box, at least not more than it can be compared to buying a pair of trousers, totally different things.

This list is exactly why I'm ordering OBDeleven.
Didn't know about the fogs/full beam feature, will add that, my 106 GTi had this back in the day.
Just out of interest what is the factory setting of DRL (guessing 80%?) and what is the warm weather climate?

I don't think folk are comparing, it's a matter of affordability and what to buy first. I don't have OBD11 yet as not as necessary as the pedal box which massively alters the cars characteristics. The nuances that OBD11 alter are minimal by comparison IMO of course.
If you could only have one, which one would you keep? Open question.

The Drl's are set to 80% I think and someplace around 40% when the lights are on. I've set mine to 100% all the time and no they do not blind oncoming drivers.
Warm weather climate setting makes the air conditioning cool the car much quicker, it doesn't make it colder though but very nice when the car has been sitting in the sun. It cools the car in around half the time.

Come on If I had a 30K car (i actually have) and could not afford a one-off purchase of a £50 dongle that provides access to all those settings I would rather sell it altogether, this can't possibly be a serious question? It's fine to say you don't care about them or need them but the cost argument on this particular item isn't realistic. I spend 2-3 times that amount just in fuel every month...
-

They weren't fogs, they were driving lights, just like on the 205 GTI. The 309 GTI had driving lights in the bumper too, along side its fog lights, as did an XR2i.
-
I bought VCDS from Ross tech years ago to tweek some things on an A6 avant, I thought that was steep at the time but its been fantastic on the Audi and VW's I've had since and I feel its paid its outlay. It should also work on my R fingers crossed

You miss the point. Which would you buy first. All of my 60 car purchases have been with my own cash. How m@ny on this or other forums actually own their cars outright. Hardly any from what I gather, and as such they maybe have to be selective.

yeah most people finance in one way or another, it's the norm. I don't see why people get snooty about it.
-
So I’m late to the party- as per usual -and this is the first I’ve heard of the ODBeleven and am completely intrigued by it. It sounds like a fantastic product, would the standard €40 one be recommended or the €65 Pro version? Also, their website mentions credits which seem to come with every order...what are they for?
Sorry for the dummy questions.....

It’s basically a more user-friendly “casual user” interpretation of VCDS. Until obdeleven the only way you could do the tweaks mentioned in this thread was with VCDS or “Vag-com” as it was called. VCDS is relatively expensive and daunting to use if you’re not comfortable with it.
Obd11 can do most (all?) of the little tweaks but it’s via a simple enough Android phone/tablet app.
I think the “pro” version is worth the extra outlay as it allows you to do more intricate “vcds-style” mods with the long coding. Otherwise you are restricted to a few pre-configured tweaks built into the app and relying on credits (not actually sure how credits work tbh).
-
You can buy credits from the Google play store but you can also earn them by looking at adverts I think. You also get some free ones every day you connect to it.
Without doubt go for the pro version and do the coding through adaptation and you don't need the credits. So easy to use, once you get your head around it. You will need to have an android device or say a blackberry and sideload the app.
-

Buying with cash or not is totally irrelevant to whether you can afford a 60eur item, in fact it is probably the other way around. If you've already spent a considerable amount of your cash to buy the car you probably need to be more tight, whereas paying out a loan which is a fraction of your monthly income and having your capital mostly untouched gives you more flexibility.
Back to the question, I had the OBDEleven in my hands before even getting the car delivered to me, how's that sound for priorities? I had read all about it and knew it would be exactly what I need after my VCDS adventures in the past. JB4 (at around 8 times the OBD11's price) came around a month later and as for pedal box? I don't know if I will ever bother really, I still consider it rather useless. Not in the sense that it's a fraud, but in that I don't want to trigger full throttle so early in all occasions. As much as I despise late throttle reply, I also don't want excessive throttle before I actually push the pedal almost to its end so I'm quite happy with my own throttle management for the most part.
-

Seeing as my post started this thread which Im glad it did as some great feedback Id like to take the opportunity to clarify a few things ...
1. I didnt say I couldnt afford the 50quid or mention affordability I rather simply asked if it was worth spending that plus around 50 more for a android device to be able to use it effectively OR spend the money on a tangible instant impact item such as the pedalbox....
2. For the "flash" poster who made it about money and started commenting on how if you cant afford etc...MATE those who flash the most in my experience are those who have the least ...so regardless of how much money ,what model you have (owned ,leased , borrowed) or how much people have to spend on their VW ..they contribute to this thread... they deserve to say and ask whatever they feel is relevant to them and do so hoping the feedback will be helpful and beneficial....to which most have SO THANK YOU and I will be ordering OBD11 and spend the next few hours reading through the threads .
With all the above said ...thanks to all who actually provided meaningful feedback !

I hope you don't mean me by "flash" poster or by implying you couldn't afford it? My one and only reply to you was all about the usefulness of the OBD11 and why exactly I consider it indispensable for a VW owner. Nothing to do with money until the point the affordability issue and comparison with the pedal box was raised, which quite frankly never made any sense to me as I just don't see it even remotely possible someone owning a GTI/R would not be able to pay £50 for such a device at any given time.

Well I got an Amazon tablet today delivered to me today. Ordered for 30 quid on Black Friday.
And I can confirm that it will work just fine with obdeleven!
Followed some easy instructions on YouTube to side load the Play store and that’s it. Really easy.
So thank you 7MAT!

What do you plan on changing with it Joe?

What do you plan on changing with it Joe?
On the current car, nothing much (if anything), as I have a mate with VCDS who did most of the popular mods for me on this car when I first got it.
It's more for the new car, to do the same tweaks again and it'll be nice to have this tool myself so I can make quick adjustments without relying on asking my mate to do it.
I considered going the full hog and buying the VCDS cable but it's quite expensive and a bit overkill for my needs.

For doing small tweaks and changing setting then VCDS is overpriced and overkill. I'd much rather spend the money saved on tickets to the summer festival meeting at Galway race course the end of July next. I can't wait for it.

Last time there I won a fair few pound and to help the Irish economy I then left it in and around various bars in the city

Bit of an old thread I`m dragging up here, sorry.
ODBeleven, there more I read about it the more I think I want it.
Where`s the best / cheapest place to get odbeleven? Direct from them?
-
Direct from them when they have offers on (200 free credits stuff like that), think it only took a few days to get here
