Apologies if this has been done to death, please delete & direct me to thread!
Until I can ship my car from Ireland to UK, it won't be garaged & will be subject to the often rainy Irish weather. Having done some reading I think again it seems a personal thing - some say covers are good for protection others say they cause scratches to paintwork.
Is it better to let the car take the elements in the open. & just detail regularly, or is a cover going to give my car good protection from the elements? Any recommendations other than the above in the title?

Where is your car in Ireland? If your near Wexford I might be able to help you store it in a garage.

How about a gazebo with covers to the ground, clean, dry and no touching.
-
How long will it be standing?

If you really, really, really want to protect it you need something like this:

That's what my friend uses on his Ferrari...

A cover outside will make a big mess of your paint as it moves around in the wind. Not maybe quite as bad if your car has been freshly washed under it and the cover is spotlessly clean. Best option is find some where under cover or else inspect it very regularly and wash very often.

Couldn't you just chuck a couple of the wife's bestest double cotton sheets on top first? That's what I'd do and then deny all knowledge.

What's the distance between us then? As it's only short term I may well take you up on offer if you're ok with it? We can always go for a spin first

Have you considered a gazebo with sidewalls. I use one for detailing as I don't have an indoor space and it works very well.
Purchased 3m x 6m with sidewalls from Rock awnings.

Have a look in this thread to see how it goes up and down.

Advise getting achoring kit and sandbags option too.

Thanks booth, that could be a solution for short term as I have somewhere to set that up too.

Depends whether you take the ferry or go the long way round.
BTW I now live in Solihull in the UK

My R lives under a sycamore tree from hell so has to be covered. I got one of these http://www.coveryourcar.co.uk/cielo.html - Custom fitted to the Golf MK7 and you can also specify things like wing mirror covers. A real snug fit. No scratches or anything in the 5 months or so it's been on. I don't put it on when the car is dirty though.

It is not scratches you need to worry about, it is the swirl marks it could leave. Personally I blame the detailing section and Booth11 in particular.

I find that car cover rather eerie and disconcerting. Maybe it’s the 2 tone or just the hassle and you can’t use it when car is a little dusty, especially if you are hyper sensitive . I garage mine and judging by pic you could build one in that space or a a car port. I know it costs and you would probably only use it to store stuff anyway

Unfortunately the space is my neighbour's who kindly let's me park there so can't do anything else. As I said, no swirl marks, no scratches so happy with this.
