Title: Golf GTi PP
Post by: Dubsdude on 14 November 2017, 20:17
Not often you get a bargain these days but picked up 3 door PP GTi for £20k on 17 plates with only 1500 miles. The guy I bought it from said it was Cat D but I'm not too bothered about the exhaust emissions. I asked him if was to do with the scandal on the diesel issues but he didn't know?

You do what Cat D means?
Means it’s been crashed and repaired, or stolen recovered.

Not a bargain if it's been repaired by a monkey

I read that what car article & now I know what I didn't. Do I have any come back with a private seller & he mentioned it? I'm only young so cut some slack, I should have jemmied up a bit & now I'm worried about my insurance & the loan I took.

Private sale, no come back, especially if he declared it was a cat d.

Gumtree, I'll have a look & see if it's still there, I saved no links etc. no, I didn't do hpi check? Eyes lit up when I saw it but I guess that was just the sellers.

Cash from some savings & a loan I took. I didn't think there'd be these kind of issues, I'd heard of cut & shuts when buying my previous polo but nothing like this. None of the lads I drive with said anything about this either & we think we're petrol heads.

If your not pulling our leg and this is real, you need to run a hpi to make sure it isnt stolen. This has got dodgy written all over it

You are having a laugh???..... surely?????...... I hope!

What's the reg plate no?

May be able to see the prior damage, it could be a knock to the door, minor flooding or slid down flugplatz on it's roof?

Or the smashed car has been destroyed and replaced with a stolen car

I tried the mobile & it's saying number not available - now I do know about ghost phones or sims & from what you guys are saying, it's highly likely he's used a PAYG & then microwaved it after taking my money. I'm guessing he's from Ireland as he had a thick accent, not as in dumb thick, but broad Irish.

I hope the op comes out of this okay. But, not looking good at all and suspect a stolen car as most likely. Get an hpi check done urgently!! Check the documents aren't fake and all numbers are as they should be. If that all checks out I'd get it professionally inspected.

After requests for car reg and phone number, it may all go a little quiet?

I'm sub'd for popcorn...

Whilst I don't like laughing at other peoples misfortune, as everyone can have trouble....

This though is like taking the list of things not to do & actually doing them....

Ever when I was way younger & got my first cars, I was never this naïve..

Cat D could be stolen recovered, damaged etc...freshly stolen more like reading what the OP has stated about the transaction...

£20,000 cash..really you got money to throw away that easy on a dodgy transaction...& how did you get the £20,000 cash out the bank as usually they ask questions for that amount.

Got busy worrying about Irish rain.

It's no wetter than UK rain, unless you're in the West of Ireland then it's wetter.
