There's an article on Autocar about a performance pack for the Golf R.
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/volkswagen-golf-r-gains-new-track-focused-performance-pack
Have you seen the prices? :embarrassed:
Pricing for the Performance Pack stands at £2300, while Volkswagen charges an extra £2975 for the Akrapovič titanium exhaust system.
Makes a Porsche sports exhaust system seem like a bargain!!!

Just spec'd up a Golf R dsg with performance and exhaust and the options I have on my GTi PP and it works out more than an S3 dsg saloon black edition Tech with a similar spec!!
I know which I'd rather have (and it's not the V'dub)

Marketing:
The Volkswagen Golf R is renowned for its 4Motion-inspired all-wheel drive composure and vibrant driving ability. The latest version of the Golf R was launched in the UK earlier this year with revised styling and new technology, including redesigned bumpers, new LED headlights, sweeping indicators and Volkswagen’s Active Info Display.
Now there is a potent new Performance Pack option for DSG-equipped versions of this fast Golf. The Performance Pack adds to the head-turning looks of the Golf R and further refines its dynamic capabilities.
Fitted at the factory, the new Performance Pack comprises the ‘R-Performance’ brake system, a derestricted top speed, and 19-inch ‘Spielberg’ alloy wheels. The hatchback version receives a rear roof spoiler, too. Collectively these enhancements are priced at £2,300 (RRP).
Silver-painted callipers mark the ‘R-Performance’ brake system out from the standard set-up. A two kilogram weight saving contributes to the superior performance but it is the ‘built pin discs’ that provide a superior feel for the driver.
Built pin discs have an aluminium brake pot with a cast steel friction ring that’s joined to the brake pot via cast pins. The advantage in this configuration is it expands radially when under stress, aiding durability and proving especially advantageous when the Golf R is driven on a track.
A top speed limited to 155 mph applies to the Golf R in both hatchback and Estate forms. However, that limit is removed when the Performance Pack is specified – thereby unleashing the full potential of the car’s 310 PS 2.0-litre TSI engine. In derestricted form, the hatchback model will reach 166 mph and the Estate 168 mph.
Additionally, when the Performance Pack is specified, the 18-inch ‘Cadiz’ alloy wheels fitted to the standard Golf R are upgraded to 19-inch ‘Spielberg’ alloys. And customers of the hatchback model will have an extra rear spoiler lip fitted to their Golf R, which adds a useful 20 kilograms of downforce.
Alongside the arrival of the Performance Pack, Volkswagen is now also offering a bespoke sports exhaust package for hatchback versions of the new Golf R, whether they are equipped with a manual or a DSG gearbox.
With low density and high strength, titanium is a performance car manufacturer’s ideal metal. Using this material Slovenian exhaust specialist Akrapovič has developed an exhaust system that complements the Golf R Performance Pack. It is available separately for the hatchback Golf R and is priced at £2,975 (RRP).
Round tailpipes, rather than oval, and valve control technology result in an incomparable exhaust sound, particularly at high revs and when shifting gear. The valve control system is adjusted inline with the Golf R’s Driving Mode Selection options, which include Eco, Normal, Sport and Race.
In standard form the Golf R is priced from £32,710 (OTR RRP) or £33,995 (OTR RRP) with the DSG gearbox. One of the hottest of hot hatches, the Golf R is a potent and popular model in the UK. Fitted with the Performance Pack and accompanying sports exhaust option, it becomes lighter and features sharper styling alongside that purposeful exhaust sound.
The Golf R Estate is a one of a kind car and is only available with a DSG gearbox. It is priced, in standard form, from £35,700 (OTR RRP). With the Performance Pack it benefits from the improved braking system, an unrestricted speed limit and larger wheels.

The performance brakes are the Club Sport discs and pads.... So I think it's quite expensive option really. Should of gotten the Brembo's the Cupra can have
-
Old news...we were talking about this on the MK7 forum a few weeks back....
& yes all they have done is fit the CCS two piece discs & pads & given them a silver coloured logo plate instead of the red ccs & GTi plates...
The cost is in the alloys....
As for those stupid Audi TTRS/ Seat Leon Cupra "sub 8" huge discs...why only 4 pots?? ..on that size they should be 6 or 8 pots...the Seat Cupra R years ago had very small 312mm??? with 4 pot Brembos as standard fit...
Personally I'd hand my cash to Vagbremtechnich & get one of their easy bolt on 6 pot kits, light & smaller to fit more wheel choice & better braking I bet...

'old news' press release is from today.
They have gone total high-end on the exhaust, mad as it sounds 3k for one of their titanium exhausts is pretty decent
-
This is news from before the FL was announced.
-
I saw a FL R last weekend with the Akropovic exhaust on it !
-
£3k is quite a bargain for an Akrapovic
Makes the R an very expensive item with all those options, considering what a great, extremely fast and capable the hatch it is with no extra options fitted and a relative bargain with a good discount off list.

And if you get carried away with the options and push the list price over £40k (before any discounts), then you’ll be paying more in road tax too.

Got the Akra Tity on ma K1300s, thanks. I like my GTIs subtle, quiet N comfy.
Up late tonight.... Papa John.

Audi certainly does have a name, style and desirability that VW can't match.
However...
I would NEVER EVER buy one. I really don't like driving my wife's A3 too far, because it becomes uncomfortable. This happens because all Audi cars only have 1 foot rest. On journeys longer than an hour where the cruise control is used, I get an aching right ankle and/or knee. Journeys over 2 hours and my lower back starts to ache from sitting in an awkward position.
In my Golf I set the cruise control and put my feet up on the rests which is a lot more comfortable.
(2 cars in the Audi range have a space where the right foot can be rested on the carpet - the A1 and the R8. So I guess I might buy one of them :undecided: )

Oh dear :embarrassed: I've had mine for just over two years and hadn't even noticed the second footrest  I'll have a look when I go out later. In my defence, I don't use the ACC

The one on the right is not that big though at least for me but I do have size 14 feet so it could be that.

Audi haven't made a good car since the Audi 80 Quattro. 5cyl joy. Yon GTI PP drives just the same in the bends and yet has far more torque across the entire rev range and is so much more economical, it's not true!
So yes. Audis are a bit sh!t.
Papa John.

Completely off topic! And total rubbish. Have you been asleep for about 10 years? Have you heard of the B7 RS4 or the original R8 V8?!!
The point is £40+ grand is probably in most people opinions too much for Golf with some extra goodies on.
That said, other manufacturers are doing the same and the revised RS3 with options is at least £48k now, around £4K more than it was pre facelift. Mind you, its performance is on another level.

That is a proper sweeping statement and absolute nonsense.
Audi make some fantastic cars although I find using their infotainment system a real pain in the arse.
