Title: Fumes in my car!!!
Post by: rowlers on 06 October 2005, 20:45
Hopefully just a blockage or something else simple!

When stationery I get a build of of exhaust fumes in my 1990 16v. It has only recently started doing (well more noticable anyway - never used to bother me!).

It also only seems to appear if I've got the blowers on (hot or cold). Where does the air-intake for the blowers come from? Could I have inadvertanlty blocked them when pulling my amp power cable in thru the bulk head (passenger side footwell?)

As far as I can tell there is no leak on the exhaust - nothing is blowing anyway.

Any ideas - you don't want me falling asleep at the wheel and taking another Mk II golf off the roads now do you!!!

cheers all

open the bonnet & check the rubber seal running along the front of the rain scuttle area, where the long plastic tray is :)

Cheers I'll ahve a look but I'm fairly certain its coming in thru the heater vents, when they are off or closed the fumes are not as bad!!

Just thought I'd let you all know what the problem was!!

The rain tray at the base of windscreen (under bonnet) was basically none existant, so the heater fan was basically sucking in engine fumes. Replaced at a cost of £25, new one is far better!

The misting up was caused by the door panel leaking in and water running though the heater fan into the passenger footwell - I have a siwmming pool!

All dried out, door sealed up etc...

Now all is well!!
