Started the car this morning to no media screen. Tried a restart to no avail. Info band at the top showing volume works but the other 98% of the screen dead. Any clues??

I'll be when you return to the car later, its working...
Literally, switch it off and try again.
You could speed the process up by holding the power button for like 10 seconds to force a reboot if you wanted.
I'll bet its this.

2 times my radio have had no sound. Bur when i restarted the media screen it worked again..
New things..

Exact same thing this morning to me on 7.5
Turned off car completely, locked and unlocked started engine, its still blank!

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to reboot it.
BTW just switching the car off, locking and unlocking doesn't shut it down completely. It takes leaving it for some amount of time I've never figured out, but longer than 5 mins.
Problems with MIB crashes are as old as the Mk7.
Sometimes a software upgrade can cure it, but often not and its not your particular unit either, so swapping it out won't make any difference!

Thanks for the responses guys - much appreciated. The clearing the cookies 10sec press didn’t work but having left the car for half hour has proved the magic fix!
I have also had a few spinning gifs - awaiting the navigation to load maps, which appears to either fix itself after switching the car off for a while or releasing and reinserting the sd card. Will keep an eye on it.

Just consider yourself lucky it's just the media screen and not the active info display - now that would be exciting
