Title: BP Ultimate FUEL
Post by: whogives on 01 November 2017, 21:22
I was wondering if it was OK to use BP Ultimate 97 Ron .... in my golf 2014 ...... To be honest I've always used that fuel in my civic type R...which was heavily modified. .... I haven't changed anything on the Golf yet, will possible have it chipped but that's it really.

What R Your thoughts???

87 reads so far - it possible that you are not getting a response because you don't say what kind of Golf you have!

I used Esso 97 in my Stg2 Ed30 thruout my ownership with no issues. It helped as the location was a half mile from my house. Now they have opened a Shell just a spit further its the V stuff in the MK7.

I use Sainsbury’s super unleaded as no  BP or Shell garages near . Car runs really well on it .

I've only been using shell v power in my gti for no other reason than its cleaning detergents and a hope it will keep the fuel system cleaner than using standard petrol.

I use Tesco Momentum 99. I was reluctant to change from regular 95 ron particularly as that is what it says to use on the filler door. But someone helpfully pointed out that VW advise 95 as a minimum and recommend super unleaded so I took the plunge. The car does seem to run a bit better, not convinced on economy, perhaps a tiny bit more mpg but since it works out at about £2.50 more on a full tank I don't think it's worth worrying about

I used to put petrol in mine before I sold it and then put more in when it was empty. When I get my new one, guess what?
I will put petrol in it and when it’s empty I will put more in  !!  😴😴😴

Yes I did in a vain attempt to stop another snorathon war and peace thread about fuel. Using higher grade fuel or otherwise is not going to make anyone into Stirling Moss on their urban crawl around the U.K. road network as they commute about and when the thread  inevitably switches to whinging about fuel economy it doesn’t take a genius to work out you are never going to get anywhere near the official figures due to the fact you can’t buy the stuff the manufacturers use when they conducted the test in a “prepared test facility” buying fuel from any petrol station in the U.K.
A simple search could have told you this rather than opening another thread on a subject that has been covered endless times !!

And what about the people who use the higher grade fuel for the cleaning property element? Not everyone is the same so don't be do selfish with your opinions please.

Again you don't have to read it, you do understand the way forums work? The reason I ask is because you seem to think it was me that started this thread so knowledge may not be at the top of your list of priorities.

Let me answer that in two parts. I have nothing against anyone who wishes to use a higher grade fuel. It’s your choice. I ran my Golf R on V Power from day one because the manual said it needed Super unleaded so I am not against the higher octane fuels. On the second point. I take it I am not allowed an opinion then if it doesn’t align with others?
You will never get everyone to agree on a forum or there would be no point.

There is no definitive answer as a quick search of this site will prove

Thanks and yes I am aware how forums work. Looking at my quoted post I can see why you think I was aiming this at you. I wasn’t and the “you” as in “A simple search could have told you this”  was in general not personal.
Agreeing to disagree is what makes forums work.....Sometimes

Of course everyone's allowed an opinion but I can't see the point in commenting on a thread that obviously bores you.

my old 1.4 16v Fabia stated on the fuel cap & in the sales brochure "98ron only ..95ron can be used with a slight reduction in power"..

Quite a few after 5-6yrs which were run only on 95ron started having problems with piston rings & other various ERG etc faults....mine after 14yrs never did & was as rev happy as ever..all down to using the "super snake oil"...

My current car is run only on Vpower..."snake oil".....mainly because I know the cleaning package will stop loads of ERG etc faults/ gunging problems etc..& the variable camshafts (both) can make use of the higher octane also...

My apologies for starting a new thread on a old topic....... Now my only reason was because I'm new to the VW scene....But with Honda a Jedi master...When I fitted my Supercharger to the type R ... I had to use a specific fuel. I'll check before asking question :)

I prefer to 'rip the guts out of it-give it the bejesus' (Mad Max) once or twice a week.Obviously once the oils up to a good temp.I just put Tesco normal diesel in.
HonestJohn recommends the Shell V-Power stuff for it's cleaning properties. But i pay enough on fuel duty so it's take it or leave it.

What stuff do the lease guys use? I  mean the car is going back after 2 years right, so is it Asda's finest or 100% V power from Day 1.  Just a question.

Lease cars, its homebrew all the way.

Its not as though supermarket petrol is going to screw the car up so bad that you'll end up stranded at the roadside.

If there is any benefit from running fancy fuel, its about extending component life and in 2 years, you don't care because its a) not ever going to cause a problem in that time b) 100% definitely not your problem from month 24 onwards.

Save your cash, buy more cake instead (and fill the cubby hole up with crumbs for the next owner)

I run a mixture of Tesco Momentum which is highest Ron available on a forecourt or sometimes their normal unleaded. Can't say notice any difference in the extra 4 Ron

V Power is a big rip off - I'm paying £1.19 currently for the 99 Ron stuff from Tesco.

Its worth an extra 5 seconds on your lap time at The Ring don't you know.

Plus increases your pulling power with the girl staffing the drivethru hatch at McDonalds.

Obviously I use diesel but I notice a difference when using V power diesel, at the end of the day it's only a few pounds more each fill.

They've been making for years, always has been the highest Ron in the UK (excluding race fuels obviously!)

I traded in a 2008 V6 diesel Mercedes-Benz E-Class (E320 Sport) for the GTI. Diesel is not only the devil's fuel, but in 4cyl form it totally sucks! Petrol wins every single time and I'm willing to pay for that at the pumps, simply because I'm not a tight-arse-git!
