Title: Accessories for new GTI owner
Post by: ajmoir36 on 30 October 2017, 21:20
So my sister has just bought a used Red Mk7 GTi which she collects on Saturday. Its an upgrade from a 10yr old mk5 170 GT. What are the nice little things you can buy that make it that little bit special? E.g key rings?

A colleague of mine bought me one of these https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/2017-Volkswagen-Keyring-Golf-GTI-GTD-R-R32-Mk1-MK2-Mk3-Mk4-Mk5-Mk6-MK7-Key-Chain/362094666997?hash=item544e8624f5

I’m pretty fond of it  and would be quite handy for a sister to hook her keys out of her handbag easily.
Not that I carry a dainty handbag.
And if I did it would be our little secret...

I just picked up one of those they looked nice. Shame they don't make an R version for me.

GTI Cap, Polo Shirt and Jacket? She can look like Joey from Friends with the Porsche....

I don't think she's into that.

Any other suggestions? I believe it will come with Mats was thinking a boot liner but her mk5 has one and I am sure it will fit with a bit of Stanley knife help.

Red LEDs for the footwells. The link for the part numbers is in the Mk7 maintenance section.

Replacement foot rest so it matches the pedals, much better. And the Audi 12v plug, small change but worthwhile

+1 for the pedal box.
VW also do a GTI sports bag in the red check upholstery colours. Not for me but each to their own.

you know what...I don't have any of these things for my R.

I have thought about the foot rest myself for the DSG left leg pedal, never mind her, I just don't seem to get around to buying one bit like the paddle extensions, I refuse to pay large amounts of money for them and the stick on ones just look naff.

Got any links to the foot rest, good quality cheap?

Now this is a good idea. I have limestone grey so I think that any other colour might be a bit odd.

These were joke suggestions obviously!

I have one of these which looks cool and is probably the only 'GTI' accessory I'd ever get.

I’ve got some silicone key covers which are great and made the key nicer to handle.  Come in various colours and stay put, don’t roll.  Not GTI logo’d but very GTI looking with stripe and honeycomb design.  Maybe a red one for your sis.

Had one of these myself and it worked well. It might be worth looking for the one that is actually designed for the GTI key as it's slightly bigger than the standard one with the extra 'GTI' logo'd bit.

I've seen them online but not bought any yet.

Thanks for the ideas, I think I have two keyrings on order, some new Bosch wiper blades, a Tornado Red touch up stick. Not sure about the rubber sleeves as she has key less and it probably not see the light of day in the bottom of a hand bag, then again nor the key chains.

Could you elaborate on this?

It's the plug filling what would've been the cigarette lighter socket - the standard VW one is just a sorry looking bit of black plastic whereas the Audi one is a bit more blingy. I'd post a picture but I can't at the moment  It's about £5. It won't change your life but it does look so much better and is a nice addition to the Golf's cabin

Still looking for a silicone fob cover that fits the larger GTI fob and they do them but rare as Hens teeth.

Thanks vidman2.
My new alloy footrest cover from Creations Motorsport has a self adhesive pad and simply sticks on to the outward facing surface of the rest so I reckon that will be a 1 minute job.
Looks a v nice bit of kit too.
As original equipment that would cost VW about 5 quid to source and fit.........on a £28,000 list price car!

This is pretty much same as a genuine footrest and fixes on in place of original plastic one rather than sticking on.

Haha, only just seen this!  Obviously you are sorted now.

Thanks for your kind words.

Just seen your post about the footrest. I had one of these in my previous GTI and though it has sticky pads, I strongly advise you to utilise the fitting screw or use a self tapping screw to secure as the sticky pads alone do not hold it for long in my experience.  I’ve got to say the aliexpress footrest as linked to in the fitting thread, though not gti logo’d, is superior to the stick on one in this thread.  Being a replacement footrest to the plastic oem one, it fits perfect and is so comfortable underfoot.  On aliexpress with a 14% discount on 11th coming up for anyone interested.
