Title: Climatic noise
Post by: raffman on 05 October 2005, 22:31
99T 1.8 20v GTI

When I turn on the climatic control (from the off position) there is a whinning screeching noise from under the bonnet. Soon as I turn it off it stops.

I guessing prehaps some sort of pump has gone.

I'm also guessing mega bucks for a new one and fitted. Could this be a job for myself with a used part? I'm not mechanic but I'm not an idiot, well at least I think I'm not

Could be the auxillary drive belt slipping? The climatronic uses quite a lot of power - my interior light dims when i turn mine on - and i've experienced this on other cars in the past where the belt slips (and screeches) when you turn on all the electrics.

I'm no mechanic though so i may be talking complete b*ll*cks, maybe someone else could agree/disagree?
