Title: Movie: First Winter Drive in the Facelift GTI, fun :)
Post by: Wide on 24 October 2017, 21:23
The First snow in Sweden

https://youtu.be/aeqFQWRZ2sU (https://youtu.be/aeqFQWRZ2sU)

So now I have done a very scientific match between Continentals best summer tires and their good winter tires that I have on the car.

Summer tires: Continental Sportcontact 6 235/35/19
Winter tires: Continental Wikingcontact 5 205-50/17

https://youtu.be/XkYUFpEiHP8 (https://youtu.be/XkYUFpEiHP8)

Time to put on winter tires, run with continental M + S tires without studs. Many people run with studs in Sweden, but I think it's screaming too badly. :)

These rims are 17 inches, one is extremely tight between the brakes and the balancing weights on the rim.

Also look at my poor summer tires, damn what a day's trackday has made on them still.

But thi GTI is so soft and quiet now, a real nice commuter car now..Lol

Defa engine heater and comfort kit mounted. It is nice to have in the winter

I have 19" wheels and DCC on my GTi PP and for the last few days have been running it set in Sport mode and have to say I'm surprised and impressed at how well it rides like this. Nothing like the jarring, fidgety, 'they've left the transit blocks in' ride I had been expecting.

I love the DCC. You can use 19 "with the hardest mode on the street. Think it is anyway softer and useful than many other hardcore hatchbacks like A45AMG, Focus Rs, and more.

But with winter tires and in the softest mode of DCC, the car is the car like a limosine but still not scary soft..LoL

Thanks!, yes think the 17" GT wheels looks ok, it is nice to higher profile on the tires on bad winter roads :)

The 19" is Alutec Ikenu, the best i could get when it was impossible to have Pretoria from factory..

Some more Videos is on editing..

Did you fit that yourself?

I know I'm a bit slow but I've only just realised what your numberplate spells (backwards)

Love the vids though :afro:

7J wheels on a mk7 can take some big spacers!
If you're going to drive in snow then you'll still want plenty of clearance so I'd play safe and go 12mm front and 16mm rear but you'd easily take 20mm rear spacers (each side).

No the spacers are bolt on so you bolt the spacer to the hub and then your wheel bolts to the spacer.
