I've purchased the VW Reversing camera (Retro fit ) kit ........... I've fitted it myself. In the instructions it mentions about updating the software with a code........... Has anyone else bought and fitted this themselves. I have a few other questions if someone can help
-
I did but mine had the camera for trailer assist so I didn't have to connect the reverse wire but had to change the coding for it to open in reverse
But the coding to get it on the screen in obd11 was
Infotainment
long code
Scroll down to
byte_19_rear_view_low
Change to activated
Press and hold green tick
Then reset the discover pro by pressing and holding the on/off button until the screen goes off then back on again saying welcome to Volkswagen

When you first fitted it, did it work at all IE ..... when in reverse did the camera pop out..... The reason I ask is its all hardwired in but nothing happens at all when in reverse
Is it all down to the software change before it works ????
-
I didn't try mine when I fitted it until I had made some changes with VCDS but it then worked as it should except the display was not quite right. I found a post online somewhere that had some extra VCDS changes which I did which which sorted the display
-
As I said mine is wires differently, but you should of tapped into the reverse light wire (black/blue) which should activate it with no need for coding, the coding is to tell the infotainment unit you have a camera and to display it onscreen
-
Ok............ Ref the reverse wire (black/blue) as mentioned (top of tailgate ...there are two plugs both have a this colour wire ....one plug is white the other yellow ...... I also found this video its in German, so I've gone by that. Perhaps I've connect to the wrong wire ????

Did you get these installation instructions with your kit?:
https://www.skodabutikken.no/wcsstore/ExtendedSitesCatalogAssetStore/SorensoDocuments/5g1054634_pdf.pdf
I installed mine from this except for the part where you connect to the fuse box as I used a piggyback fuse holder

Yes I had these details ........... As you mentioned I havn't connected to the fuse box either .... I'm gathering its a consent live so I've connect to the red wire on the naviation using a inline fuse also. as shown in the video.... I'll check the 12v output at the tailgate when I put in reverse (As mentioned) .... If I'm still struggling tomorrow Ill also take so pics to show you ....see what your thoughts are .............THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT GUYS :)
-
I would've thought the power is from a switched live so the battery will not go flat, there's no memory involved and you can only use reverse with ignition on,
-
Well I've relooked at the wiring ........... the reverse wire at the top of the tailgate wasn't 100% .I've reconnected so know when in reverse the camera is actually working (ie popping out) ........... Just need to get it coded know....... Do's anyone know were I can get these.. Didn't really want to take it to the dealers to be recoded
