Title: Creaks from suspension / wheels
Post by: st332 on 05 October 2017, 12:14
When I turn off the radio and A/C, I can hear various creaks from the car at crawl speeds when in traffic.
One creak seems to occur over bumps - suspension I assume.
Another seems to be related to the wheels; speeding up as I speed up.
Both sound like rubber/seals creaking, and don't seem to be coming from the doors/cockpit, though it's very hard to tell.
I've got a 7.5 GTI with <1000 km on the clock and DCC.
Is this normal?

Guessing that some gummi pfleg on the doors seals may help.

Best stuff I've found for feeding rubber door seals and window felts is VW Special Lubricant Krytox Oil, part no. G052172A1. Get it from TPS (not via website) approx £38 for 30ml but a little goes a long way, and applied properly it has very long lasting effect.  Imo, it's quite a lot better than gummi pflege, but either way, lubricating the seals which can dry out over time is one way to silence creaks/squeaks from seals.

I would give all a bit of advice when it comes to doors and forget about any lubrication as they don't last and just coveting up the problem , for 99.9% of the time all you need to do is torque open the door lock catch fitted to the body and just .move it slightly back and up a couple of mm and job done.

Depends on nature of problem - recent discussion on this on another forum. Krytox has served me very well for door creaks for last 2 cars.  One application in 3 years on previous car lasted beyond my ownership of the car.  Misaligned doors is a little different but adjusting via the door strikers can potentially be precision adjustment.

I don't think the noise is coming from the doors, particularly the creak that seems to be happening with every revolution of the wheels.

Sounds like sticking driveshaft boots. Had this on my 2013 gtd, and dealer sorted it.

I had a similar issue with my GTD 18 months ago... one front strut replaced under warranty as the strut top bearing was worn... and both rear dampers replaced under warranty at the same time as there was still a noise. No issues since.
