How many weeks does an order typically sit at Stage 2 (With the Factory) before moving to Stage 3 (Build Week confirmed)?
And........when it does, does it tell you what the build week is?
Do the build weeks correspond to the 52 weeks of the year from 1 Jan?
Mine's been at Stage 2 for 4 weeks so far.
-
Its random because to get a build week confirmed the factory has to have planned the build with all of the parts on hand and to have production capacity that week.
They plan 4 weeks ahead, so you will get confirmation of build week four weeks before they actually build it.
Once you get a build week its reasonably predictable as to roughly when the car will arrive, but before then its variable.
Normally its 4-6 months between your order with the dealer and the car arriving.
These are the week numbers:

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me, i've been on stage 2 for nearly 4 weeks. The app is a great idea, but it drives you mad when you're waiting to move to the next stage
-
I was on 'with the factory' for 9 weeks, and finally moved to build week confirmed last week, I have spec'ed a lot of extras though.
-
i ordered a basic manual - only an isaac blue option - and this seems to be quicker than most DSGs & PPs.
its gone like this so far, likely to be 16 weeks total
Week
01 - 07/08 - Step 1/7 Ordered
02 - 14/08 - Step 2/7 With Factory
03 - 21/08 - Step 2/7 With Factory
04 - 28/08 - Step 2/7 With Factory
05 - 04/09 - Step 2/7 With Factory
06 - 11/09 - Step 2/7 With Factory
07 - 18/09 - Step 3/7 Build Week Confirmed
08 - 25/09 - Step 3/7 Build Week Confirmed
09 - 02/10 -
10 - 09/10 - Build will be in Progress

My order was mid-July and still on stage 2.
I think they "batch" certain builds / specs according to demand, so there's no set time between order and build date.
-
I don't think its about batching, the production line as far as I know can build different Golfs sequentially - even building a Match and an R next to each other.
Its more to do with the stock levels and supplier supply of the components.
Remember VW won't be making themselves many of the parts and even the parts they do make also come off of factory production lines themselves - eg gearboxes or engines.
Its a complex process to create your car from all of these pieces, ready for them to be in bins alongside a moving production line.
-
PS you might want to ponder how BMW can supply you a factory ordered car in 4 weeks max though ;-)
-
All good things come to those who wait!
-
my build week has been set for 16th oct after nearly 4 weeks at stage two so now just a waiting game to say it only takes 17 hrs to build the car bit of a joke or maybe im just being impatient lol.
-
It takes 17 hours to assemble the car from bits on hand, it takes considerably longer to manufacture those bits its glued together with... see my comment above.

I now have a build date of w/s 13 November. Progress.
Typically, how long is it from build to dealer?

My order is an Atlantic Blue Performance ................ haven't seen any Atlantic Blue cars yet - selected it from internet swatches and photos. Fingers crossed that I'll like it when it actually turns up.
Anyone seen an Atlantic Blue? Photos?
