Ask them for proof it was serviced. Maybe the VW app hasn't updated but more likely service not done.

How do they prove it ? Their system says it was done and they just hadnt reset the indicators

Ask to see the paperwork that should have been completed and also check your service book. Is it stamped? If not I'd be asking questions and maybe contacting VW UK too.

I wouldn't want Arnold shark to service it anyway

Books stamped

DH has said to take it to vw garage and get it serviced again  that way it has a vw garage stamp and not sharks citroen

Bet they f**ked up resetting service intervals. Most garages that don't have VW specific gear can't do it properly.

Since they took over Advantage/Inch VW in Stirling and Inch in Bathgate the nearest alternative is probably Western at Newbridge. AC seem to pretty much be leaving VW owners with not much option.

You'd be nearer to Cameron VW Perth.Although i don't know if they are any good. Also an AC in Wishaw.
Yeah, the Arnold Clark monster just seems to eat up everything in sight.

Sorry for re raising this but wee question

The car is 17 months old so has the remainder of the 3 year warranty on it

Firstly - as the AC Citroen stamp is on my book for its first service will this invalidate any warranty item i call for if any issues

Secondly - I spoke to VW on the chat when i was awaiting this car and asked about their extended warranty and could i buy this ........he said yes when mines expires to give them a call..........but only think i can find is you ordering that when buying the car from new has anyone any experience of extended VW warranty on a used car?

Thanks to an EU directive, you can have your car serviced anywhere, as long as they use OEM parts it won't invalidate the warranty. On a car so young, you should be fine.

Re: extended warranty, never felt the need, personally I would save the money.

Re extended warranty, it depends on how long you plan on keeping it. My Mk5 was fine in year 4, but it was towards the end of year 5 when the problems started.

And mine was still fine at the end of year ten...

Only you can answer the question of whether or not it's worth it, and you may not know the answer until way down the line. But it may be worth it for the peace of mind.

You may be lucky and not have a major fault for 10 years, or you might have my luck and be driving round in a liability by year 6. If only VW had the same confidence in their engineering as Kia!

The good news is the Mk7 is now quite a few years into production so most early niggles should hopefully be cured. However when modern cars go wrong, anything major can mean major £££ to fix.

Don't you have to be careful with VW warranties in that the things covered actually reduce over time?

Talking of reliability, I was talking to a bloke I met at a party last weekend and he'd just given back his GTD as company car and he said both he and several others at his company also with GTD's had had water pump impeller failures on 64 plate GTD's.

They've all switched to Volvo V40's now - I had a quick look at it and its a bit meh on the inside.
Title: Re: Services
Post by: mcmaddy on 29 September 2017, 09:48
Used to be very common on MK4 and 5s as the impeller was plastic. New replacement ones were metal so unless the bean counters are at it again I would have thought all newer ones would have been metal.
Title: Re: Services
Post by: fredgroves on 29 September 2017, 10:31
No I asked about that actually, he said they were plastic and that when their company had queried this with VW, they were told that "metal doesn't make any difference".

I don't think I've heard of these failures on a Mk7 on here though?

Nobody has had a water pump fail yet?
Title: Re: Services
Post by: mcmaddy on 29 September 2017, 15:49
They definitely changed them to metal ones as loads of the plastic ones were going.

Jonny D on here had water pump failure on his 40k mile 2 year old GTD.VW fixed it no questions.

1) As other have mentioned. The Citroen stamp from AC won't affect your 3 year warranty in any way at all.
What i have noticed with AC service booking. They offer to service your VW at all of their dealerships (within a reasonable distance).Like a Citroen or Fiat dealership.I always choose the VW dealership even if it's further away.It is only common sense.

2)As for warranties. You were probably being told about the 'VW Factory Warranty'.Applicable to cars bought from new with owner wanting to extend it from 3 to 5 years from the very beginning. What you want is the standard 'Extended Warranty'.This covers cars going out of the standard 3 years cover. You can get it regardless of whether you bought it new or not.As long as it has been serviced according to schedule.
Warranty cover is a pretty big minefield. It makes standard car insurance cover look simple.VW are usually one of the best but like with most things-at a price.
I would shop around. All of the moneysaving/comparison sites will quote you. There is also Warranty Direct and Warranty-Wise amongst lots of others.Big savings to be had for similar cover if you do your homework.
In the end. It's all a question of risk management.Do you feel lucky?.
