Title: Clubsport mudflaps
Post by: mkviken on 23 September 2017, 12:29
Does anyone know if the standard GTI mudflaps will fit the edition 40 / clubsport?

The side skirts look slightly different but thy may still fit

Dealer can’t say either way

Thanks

A few things come to mind for me when thinking about mudlaps.

Ruin the look of the car
A caravan goes hand in hand with mud flaps
Aerodynamics knackered.

Shoot me down if you like - but it's a dont do it from me.

I would agree, unless you must have Mud Flaps for a specific reason?  Don't do it, for the same reasons stated on the previous post.

Aerodynamics? Are you being serious?

Can’t say I noticed any drag on my lotus but I did notice barely having any stone chips along the sides.

They are barely noticeable and stop stones chips up the side of the car which are more unsightly and more expensive IMO

Sorry I can't answer your original question. But I agree a good set of quality mudflaps makes maintenance of the lower paintwork much easier. I also don't mind the look, the OEM ones are fairly discreet as far as mudflaps go.

Might stop chips up the side but they'll collect dirt, mud and other road crap behind them.

Probably my opinion doesn't matter to the OP but I have to agree that I don't like the looks of them in general and on a unique car like the CSS, such an addition would look truly horrid in my eyes. I'm of the belief that special cars should retain 100% stock look.

Strange that some of the most hardcore & best loved cars have flipping huge mudflaps on them, & when you see them without they look weird...

(rally, motor cross, pikes peak)

To the OP, I don't know if the GTI will fit, maybe get hold of the dealer or VW UK??..if not then buy a set & try..but that's the expensive way..

Isn't that because they all drive off road?!

Let's be honest, mudflaps don't look great unless its a Defender. Have ever seen a supercar with mudflaps? Probably not because it would ruin the looks. If you do a weekly or fortnightly wash they are pointless, unless of course you drive through lots of mud every day....!

I haven't found any type of stone chip that can wash off yet and that's why I have mud flaps.

I think most owners do it as some sort of look how cool I am, I've got mud flaps (and roof bars) on a performance Golf?

If you're worried about stone chips, surely PPF is the way forward, not some ugly plastic flaps hanging off your lovely car?

I’ve got xpel Ultimate PPF all over the front of the car and the A pillars and roof.

There’s not much going to Protect the lower doors or sills.

Have you heard what gets thrown up by cup2 tyres when they are warm?

Not even PPF will stop stone chips, nothing will.

Pikes peak is tarmac & most rallys have long tarmac stages & motocross some again is tarmac..

Stone chips...basically when the council just throw down hot tar & loose chippings & do not roller in & just leave for the normal cars to roller the loose chips in...nice way to totally ruin the sides of your car even at 20mph as the stones fly out from the tyre  treads & down the side of the car

Mudflaps stop this happening...& yes they even stop loads of slush in winter, & grit, & yes the back roads & some of the main roads are covered in mud near field entrances because of the farmers & their huge combines, tractors etc...

I suppose if you live in a big city & never drive outside into the countryside then you would not need them.

Ha I really don't think you can compare how Pikes Peak are driven to the average GTI driver

Over the 20 years and probably 300k miles don't think I've ever had the side of a car 'ruined' by stone chips!

Think peppered sides are something for Lambo and Ferrari drivers to worry about more than us mere Golf drivers.

The odd stone chip or some hideous plastics flaps.. Each to their own I guess...

I always thought his would cause issues and its why my GTIs never got them. My winter/hack leon has had them since new (over 12 years). I had to remove them to get the arches out recently to do lower arm bushes and was suprised that the paint was as new with no issues behind them.I expected otherwise due to the dirt that can get behind them and non regular washing of this car. I think if I was going to fit them to a GTI I would consider fitting PPF behind them first just incase.
