My Mk1 Gti Cabriolet has at some point had a bodged repair on the thermostat housing.
Took it off 2 days ago, cleaned all the silicone sealant out, replaced the thermostat, couldn't get an 'o' ring either side of the housing and tighten up the cap!!!
So I bodged it back up again by using sealant to hold the thermostat in and an 'o' ring to seal the cap!!
Did it work?
NO!!!!
Its now worse than ever, so I have come to the conclusion I need a new Water Pump.
How easy are they to fit and in what order shall I do it all?????
(1.8 injected engine by the way)

what makes you think your pump is faulty?
Did what work?

it was dripping fromthe thermostat housinginitially............
phoned gsf for a new one who stated they don't sell them.
however a new water pump including housing is only £20, so that seemed like the better option.

Well I bit the bullet yesterday and gave it a go............
Only a pricetag of £25 and 4 bolts to undo.............
All went well until I had to get the pulley off the old water pump.
The whole job took about 3 hours, and 2 of those were spent trying to get the allen key bolts out.
However its all back together and not a leak in sight!!
Phew.
