Title: Keyless?
Post by: Mk1Macca on 03 September 2017, 21:22
For those with keyless on a 7.5 - how does yours work?

With the keys in my pocket, my thumb over that little indent unlocks the car every time.

Locking, that's a completely different story. How's it supposed to work?

Just touch the handle on the outside near the rear, a little rectangle
Only problem I had with it is I went into the boot and closed it, tried to lock it and it was still unlocked, took me a good ten minutes to work out that with the key in my pocket standing next to the boot it wouldn't lock (or be unlocked every time I tried it ha ha ha)

The indicator flashes are a clue that the boot is unlocking/locking when you open/shut it.

OP - the little indent on the outside of the handle is the place to touch when you want to lock the car. You say you are touching it with your thumb, which suggests that your fingers are inside the handle, where the place you touch to unlock the car is. Sounds like you are touching both, which evidently results in unlocking.

To unlock, dip your hand (fingers) just inside the handle and it will unlock and wing mirrors unfold.  To lock gently waft or brush your palm across the little dimple on the outside of the handle and it will lock and wing mirrors fold in. For locking better to use your palm across dimple rather than fingertips.  Love keyless - one of the best features I specced.

As much as I would have liked keyless, I just couldn't order it knowing how easy it would be to boost it.

I park pretty close to the front door and have seen numerous YouTube videos where thieves are boosting th signal and driving off without the keys.

I purchased this from Amazon and both my keys fit into it which stops any boosting attempts

With the bag right next to the car door, it wont even open.

Back of the hand to lock, is recommended by VW dealerships

Just gently touch the outside of the door handle none of this back of the hand, waving nonsense.

I press my palm on the door handle.
You could touch it with any part of your body in truth.

If you had your hands full of detailing products, you'd have to use your womanly assets.

How do you know I don't already.  A quick crouch and hey presto doors locked!

Another 20 years and you might not even need to crouch: )

I knew that was a comment waiting in the wings which is why I specifically added in the crouch bit.   It might be before 20 years.

I could say something very rude about male body parts reaching the door handle now, but let's just leave it here.
