Title: Active Info Display As Standard - MK7.5 GTi Facelift
Post by: DTX3 on 01 September 2017, 16:52
Curious, does the Active Info Display come as standard? I've been watching a few YouTube videos lately of the mk7.5 facelift and they seem to all come with the dials. Although these vids are from like Australia and South Africa. Does the Country play a part in what comes as standard?

I checked the price list brochure and it does look as though its standard.

Can anyone confirm?

I was quite surprised that it's standard, and it was quite easy for us to avoid the 'Discover Pro' £1325 option.

The Discover Pro lets you show navigation maps on the dashboard and entertainment screen at the same time, and it's a bit bigger, but neither of these things bothered us.

The "gesture control" looks a bit naff. Not sure what the two knobs on the standard system do, but I like knobs... you can use them without looking.

Problem I found with gesture control is if you put your hand on the gear lever or your passenger reaches for the USB then the radio station changes or the track your listening to either skips on or resets to beginning, I enjoyed it for about 10 minutes before it got on my nerves and I switched it off

I've turned off gesture control too. Too much accidental media track skipping when I change gear. Not missed it since. It was pretty lame anyway.

Don't know why you would delete it, it's a great bit of kit I didn't think I'd buy into it but certainly did.

Even after 4 weeks ownership - I would have quite happily have deleted it if I was getting the money back.

I still prefer the look of real dials. Though I have been driving with real dials for well over 3 decades. :embarrassed:

The thing I am struggling most with on my new car is keyless. I still keep reaching up beside the steering wheel to switch the car off. I even forgot to lock the car once. Now I always look at it to see if the mirrors are in!

You will soon get used to the keyless when your muscle memory kicks in.

I forgot to lock the car the other day and walked back to touch the door to lock it, my wife was laughing and asked why I walked back to the car instead of just using the key fob :embarrassed:

Yeah, that's how and when they clone the signal though.

Cloning and replaying the signal is a rather ancient technique.

Today's system uses rolling digital codes.

If they are breaking it its by being able to mathematically "guess" a future code after having observed one you've used.

The keyless thingy though only does its stuff when in range of the car though - you won't be able to get anything usable if someone "sniffs" your key in your pocket on the train or something.

well if they clone it theres not mucn you can do, but most thieves will be driving about at night i'd of thought using their laptops to do the extending the signal thing they do.. i'm not up on all the tech but if putting my key in a baggy makes it any harder for them to take it i'm happy... but tbh if they really want our cars there isn't much we can do i'd bet. apart from sleeping in them with a big dog etc...lol. it's like the other threads where they steel bumpers etc etc... :(
