Anyone ever used a DIY windscreen repair kit? Are they any good. Is it best to just get professionals to have a look? Just come back in from a run down to Pickering and on the way back heard a stone hit the windscreen but couldn't see because of the rain. Got home and cleaned screen to find a tiny minute piece of glass had come out on my cloth. Chip isn't too bad but thinking it may be worth doing before the winter comes. I've got a pick but can't remember how to post them

Is there a charge to have it done by a professional via car insurance?

postimg.org is dead easy to use, recommend it! Once uploaded (go for 640x480), click on share and select hotlink for forums and paste the link to your message.

I had autoglass do a very similar size chip on mine CC Chris and they got it to about half the size that it was.

It's just below my viewing line so it'll more than likely bug me until it's either repaired or replaced. Just hope they don't crack the glass like on mk5 golf!!

It depends on who your insurer is. There's usually a small excess for glass repairs; less than the excess for windscreen replacement though. Glass repairs or replacement shouldn't affect your no claims discount.

I'm with More Than so glass repair excess is a tenner.

I've never seen those glass repairs work very well tbh. Actually they seem to work better on bigger chips where its through to the laminate. You might be as well getting the screen replaced.
-
I might end up doing that Joe if they make an a4se of it.

I had a possibly similar stone chip last week in mine, looked slightly different, less damage at the edges (mine was about 4.5mm across). For mine, Autoglass came out and said unless it had actually cracked the top layer, anything they do will just come off in weeks/months as without a crack to fill, its just a surface patch. The guy described how to look at the reflections to tell if it had cracked. The option was leave it and call them again if a crack appeared or to get the windscreen replaced. I went for the first option.

Got a funny feeling they will say the same today.

Couldn't repair the chip and didn't fancy the sound of him having to make it worse before he could try and repair it. Leaving it until it cracks and then replacing.
