Morning. Has anyone had any luck setting up their passenger side mirror to dip when reversing? The function is enabled, but when trying to follow the set-up instructions detailed in the user guide the option to configure the amount of dip for each user profile is missing. Any help appreciated!

You should be able to adjust it if it's the same as the MK7 to tilt fully down to see the kerb. Turn on ignition, put the mirror adjuster into L, put car in reverse and then adjust mirror knob to tilt mirror and then that it.
It is programmed to whatever ignition key you used to set it so if you swap keys a lot then you will need to set it up on both.
Oh and you may need to turn it on in the settings on the info unit.
Sounds like gti-travels is having more technical issues with it though but above is how to set it.

Also, for it to work I think you have to leave the little wing mirror dial on L.
I had this problem at first I always had mine set to 0.
Leaving it on L doesn't help with my OCD mind!

Exactly this and especially the second point!

Not the most exciting read, but always worth reading through the manual to discover those little surprise features!

Black marker pen... Remove the markings on the twiddly knob. Problem solved :-)

I don't like the volume wheel not being centred but I don't have OCD.
I had a friend that took hours just to leave his house, he had OCD. He once said to me that people saying they have OCD when don't is no different than some with a headache saying they have a brain tumour when all they have is a headache.
You'll notice I said had, he couldn't handle his OCD.
Sorry for the rant but it is one of the few things that really winds me up.

Well so it does, I might break the man code and read the manual to see what other goodies I'm missing out on.

I've never used the mirror tilt function ever on any of my VW's it's been on.

I find it quite useful given the lightest kiss of the kerb messes up my alloys...

Wouldn't be without it, at least the rears never get kerbed and helps line the fronts up, especially those lovely rough edged granite kerbs!

Neither would I, my wheels are perfect partly due to this one bit of tech

Unfortunately I learned the hard way

I do have the reverse camera but still never felt the need to use the mirror dip.
-
Really glad I read this thread. Reversing on our shared drive is so much easier. Leave it in L.
-
I wouldn't be without it.

Also if you've had the heated mirrors on and forget to turn the dial back the tilt function won't work, had that a few times in the past.

One of the worst bits of design on the Golf - my old astra used to have a switch that turned on the rear window heater and heated mirrors at the same time. Much easier.
A better alternative is a separate switch for the heated mirrors or at least the ability to set them in the infotainment system to come on with the heated rear window instead.

That's exactly what I'm used to, there isn't even a light to tell you that they are on, at least with the rear window on the Vauxhall you'd have the light on the button to remind you.

Off the back of this thread I decided to give it a go...
So, switch to L, stick it in reverse and adjust to where I want it.
Seems to work but how do you make it go back to normal? The only way I can find is to set the switch back to 0 or demist or something?

That's exactly what you have to do.
I only use the mirror tilt when I'm parallel parking and don't want to risk an expensive mistake.
It's not a big deal having to rotate a tiny knob( I'm used to it) 😀
-
Thats crap!
If it knows when to dip it because you hit reverse, it should also be able to come back up again - like the reversing camera switches off...
Maybe I just didn't go fast enough to trigger it...
I'll try again later.
I'm sure I had this sorted on my old GTD just before I gave it back...
-
It goes back to normal when you switch off the ignition, turn the switch away from 'L' or drive forwards more than (about) 5mph.
-
Aha!
Ok, excellent - I only inched forward in the car park!
Thank you!
-
It goes back to normal height when you drive forward and get above 5mph or maybe a little higher like 10mph.

The Mk7 does have a light for both windscreen and rear window heaters if that what you mean.

The vauxhalls have a separate switch and light for the heated mirrors too or a combined switch for the heated rear screen and mirrors that had nothing to do with the mirror adjustment. If the golf had the same, you could leave the mirror switch in 'L' and still have the heated mirrors on.

I think it needs to be manually operated, if it always went down to the cerb when reversing it would cause other problems...i know when i am reversing out of the garage if i have left it in the dip position i need to stop the car and turn the switch back because it only just fits through the door and i need to steer through accurately...only about half an inch each side...or dare i say it a couple of mm to the better half...lol
