Title: Glasgow Newb
Post by: ShaunV90 on 23 August 2017, 09:59
Hi guys,

I recently bought a MK6 from a local garage. It has unfortunately become a victim of the wastegate rattle. I self diagnosed this and brought it to the garages attention (I didn't mention what I thought it was).

Anyway they have confirmed my suspicions and agreed to get the turbo off and sent to a specialist for sorting. They tried to stick me with the ebay clip thing to no avail.(They provided a 3 month warranty with the car so no expenses will be passed to me)

Long story short, does anyone know the process of sorting said rattle? Is it a whole new turbo or can the wastegate/actuator rod be refurbished. It makes no real difference to me really, I'm just being nosey.

I think it can be changed separate to the turbo as Audi done a TT for us without replacing the turbo are you sure it's not the chain rattling

I'm no mechanic but I highly doubt it. Basing it on youtube clips(no other reference for sounds) the rattles sound nothing alike to me and can't think how they could be confused.
