Title: VW Dealer's not supplying service books anymore.
Post by: g19aby on 08 August 2017, 16:14
Got my new GTD last week to find out there was no service book.
Contacted head office who said they do not come with it anymore. Strange.
I was told to contact the dealer who can order one in.

Any truth in this??

Correct - there is no longer a service schedule to stamp & keep

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/digital-service-schedule

Same with my new Audi - you can view the service history online and get a printout of work history also

I didn't get a book with mine that was delivered 2 weeks ago. Think it's a MY18 thing.

On one hand it's a good idea, means it can't get lost or tampered with. On the other hand the cynic in me thinks it's more of a ploy to make people use main dealers for servicing.

If independent garages can access or update the service record then it's not a problem. But if they can't, the only way to keep a service record is to keep all invoices etc. (Unless you get a book off eBay!)

Independent garages can log servicing using a web based login at Erwin

I too didn't receive a service record book when I picked up my new Golf three weeks ago. I queried this and 'yes sir it's all digital now'. The cynic in me thinks it's all to do with tying you into the VW dealerships. What happens if you want to sell the car privately and can't produce a stamped service record. Have to hang onto the receipts or do you not get those anymore 'cos it's all digital!

You get receipts, and a dealer can do a full printout of the entire service history

I really don't see the problem here

this is ok if all works, my localish vw garage serviced my mk5 for sevral years they were than sold on. so when booking the next time i asked what she was due to have and they had no clue as the previous wasn't given to them they said. true or couldn't be bothered to look i don't know... but imho i'd prefer the booklet myself as having a hard copy for peace of mind etc , and i'll purchase one if need be. :)

So long as you have all your invoices they can see what has been done and when. I always prefer to see invoices as a service book is just ticks, an invoice will note any issues needing attention too, very useful when you are buying (maybe not so much on here as most buy new).

Do VW not have the same system as Audi? A fair few years back when my wife changed her S4 cab for a 911 the dealer noticed that the first was missing from the service book so he rang Audi and they emailed him a copy of everything including warranty work that was done to the car over its 3 years.

You sure about that when did MY 18 start. Surely not until Sep/Oct on?

Build weeks for model spec changes are usually weeks 22 and 45. Week 22 is usually the when the build of next year's models commence, so around the end of May for MY18 vehicles.

Yep, positive - from end of May 2017 is MY18.

You know I would have thought that this year MY changed with facelift. So earlier than usual? there are several references to F/L as MY18, no matter I'm well happy to have a service book with mine.

MY17/18 is different to facelift... some other bits and bobs that changed between the two.

Yeah I'd agree with that. When the guy who delivered my GTI was showing me the infotainment there were some new menus he hadn't seen before. He said ah your system must be new new as opposed to just new. I asked what he meant and he said it looks like this head unit has newer software than some of the other FL golfs he had delivered. My car was built at the start of July so these additional menus must have been a MY18 change.
