Having recently sold my GTI, looking to upgrade to R. Thinking of getting a car from the UK to Cyprus. Found this via the VW authorized used search engine.
Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TSI R (300 PS) DSG 5-Dr
Finished in Deep Black Pearlescent with Titan Black Cloth interior
£25,450
Mileage 7,000 miles*
1st reg. date Jan 2017 Transmission Automatic Doors 5
Leeds Volkswagen
Just a couple of questions:
1. How can the price drop so hard on a relatively new car with so low mileage? Isn't starting price for an R around 32-33K?
2. Is the guarantee transferred to my local VW dealer?
thanks in advance

Price will drop as they are available with pretty huge discounts from new.
Personally I wouldn't buy one so dear unless it's the facelift version which this car won't be. If paying so much I would pay a little more and get a brand new car from a dealer giving a discount. Aim for 15 to 16% off list for new facelift car.

so you are telling me that i can do better than this price-wise... Hmm, interesting, because i also need to count the transit expenses and CO2 tax from the UK to here, which for an R would be around 3K. Tbh i was looking to buy something in the range of 15-20K, don't mind if it's not the 300hp one, i could do with the mk6 as long as it's in mint condition. I take it the used ones sold by VW dealers nationwide are safe in that respect?

The second you drive your new car away from the dealer it looses 20% value...
That price sounds about right for a 6 month old car from a main dealer, that is an "old model", with 7k on the clock - compared to the list price.
Discounted price, you could probably buy a brand new Mk7.5 R for that sort of money...
The other thing is that a main dealer price on secondhand cars, especially nearly new ones, is always higher than you'd expect to pay. Their margins are somewhat excessive!

You could probably buy it new for not much more.

That does depend on extras, the discounters only discount on basic list price. If that's all you want a 5dr, manual, in white then I reckon £28k is possible OTR. Mine was £31.600 with extras.

Out of interest, how much do these cost in Cyprus?

Decent price I think you can probably knock another few hundred off, Seen new ones for around 27k but that's manual metallic and dsg are going to add 2k.
I'm currently looking for one also, decent specced ones go reasonably quick if priced right although some are priced pretty high with some wanting 22-23k for 2014/15's.

in euro, around 43K with basic specs (manual etc). If specced the way i want it (pan sunroof, dsg) that's another 4K right there. Not a lot sold though - i believe it's single figures for the mk7, so not a big market of used ones (small island and all...). Same with the GTI but official sales there show around 20 sold per year. UK market definitely a vast one in comparison :)
