I am due to pick up a 65 plate gti tonight, its from a main dealer and was registered in sept 15 but the first service is in April 17 at 5000 miles. When I asked about this and if it would affect the warranty I was told it could be on a long service plan so it would have the warranty....does that sound right?

Sounds about right to me. Normal schedule is 12 months/10,000km and longlife is 24 months/20,000km.

Look and see when next service is due. If it's 2019 then it's on a two year long life plan. Obviously it was serviced in April as part of resale preparation.

Yeah thanks, it had one service after 11 months 2500 miles and another 6 months later(prepping for sale) so it all looks good.

Look on the menu to see when the next service is due. That will tell you which service regime the car is now set up for. If you are doing less than around 15K miles a year, it's better to be on the normal schedule. Your dealer can reset it for you, so you get the reminders at the correct times.
