I have been trying to update my Discover Nav maps and keep hitting a problem.
I have updated with no problem in the past but this time it doesn't make any difference how I download the updates either as one big file or separate smaller files when it comes to extracting back to the VW SD card it gets so far then says there is not enough room on the card ??
I have backed up then deleted all the older files from the original SD card and even reformatted the SD card and tried again but hit the same problem. Reformatting it obviously doesn't harm it in any way as for now I have just dropped the backed up older maps back on and it works fine.
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong ??
Thanks

Sounds like you've downloaded the Nav Pro maps which are bigger than the discover maps. Check what you've downloaded to see if that's the issue.
-
Yes think you have downloaded either the files for Discover Pro and have a Discover Media (MIB1 or 2), or downloaded Discover Media MIB2 and you have an MIB1.
-
I have double checked and you could be on to something :smug:
The files I downloaded when I selected MIB1 (which I have) from the model checker have the file name P67_N60S3MIBS2_EU_NT.7z001 to 007.
I am assuming the last part of the file refers to the gen type of the head unit you have I.e MIB1 or MIB2 so the website is wrong as it only gives you the MIB2 files when you select Golf R 2015 and click MIB1
Can't believe I am am the only one caught out by this ??

I have a Discover Pro MIB2 and get the message not enough disk space on a 32GB sd card. Anyone know the correct card size I need?
-
I got this as well this time. I reformatted the card and followed the instructions. The install on the card was almost complete when it stopped and said there was no more room. In my case there were only one or two files it couldn't load and from the filenames these looked like somewhere in Germany, so not bothered. I'm using the card with no issues. The card seems to be an 8GB card and the map update gets bigger each time they release one, so it could be more of an issue next time I guess.

Update.... All done ✅ I downloaded the DiscoverCare program and initially it still said I didn't have enough space when it tried to back up the previous version so I backed up the old maps to another location and tried again and it's done it 🎉🍻👍

Something either wrong with your SD card or you have something else on it. 32gb is plenty big enough to update Pro maps. Try formatting card and see what size is free.

Having the same issues, the old map data is 7.03gb the new data is 7.28gb. Says there is not enough room on card even though I am 100% sure they are the correct maps and I am doing it exactly the same way as I have always done.
Trying the Discover Care route now, fingers crossed...........tick tock, tick tock.

Discoverd that the message "Not Enough Disk Space" referred to my PCs hard drive and not the 32gb SD card, deleted some files to free up disk space on pc hard drive and that solved the problem.

That crossed my mind too when I did mine
-
Well the Discover Care was the same so no joy with that. In the end deleted parts of the Ukraine as will never visit there  and fits on card and working perfect now.
-
Be interesting next time around and more to the point Volkswagen's standpoint on this if new SD cards are needed !!!

I'm just downloading the latest maps (May 2017?)
Do i need to back up and format the VW SD card or can I use any other SD card?
Thanks
-
I updated mine about 7 days ago .......... it said at the end not enough room on the card but mine works fine ........ I believe the file contains all languages so mine didn't load a couple of language packs....... I did mine as one big file

Did you use the vw SD card?
-
Did you use the vw SD card?
You have to use a VW card. There is some sort of protection which prevents non specific cards from working.
-
Thanks that’s what I needed to know
-
So I updated my vw sd card and just plugged it back in and left the car - didn’t switch it on or anything
Just got in it and it seems to be updated? Says map is ECE1 2017/18
Was I meant to do anything to upload the map or is it all automatic?
-
Basic nav not nav pro?
-
Basic as far as I know
Think it’s done it automatically it works fine
Also updated radio station logos
Still can’t find my house number though
-
The 7z001 to 7z007 are the numbers for a multipart 7 zip file that is spanned into chunks. 7 zip puts them together to extract all the data from inside the archive. Just in case you wondered.
-
Basic Nav reads the map data directly off the SD card so once it's in the car it doesn't actually do anything inline the pro version which is uploaded to the hard drive.

Has anyone managed to update the maps via car-net??

Has anyone managed to update the maps via car-net??
Is that a listed method? Anyway, car-net is a bit flaky in my experience.
It's quite a long job, using a laptop and fast internet connection, so a car-net update, even if possible, would not be practical, imo.

I’ve seen the option to update maps but no joy so far.

Has anyone managed to update the maps via car-net??
I tried to update using Car-net by using the home Wi-Fi while parked on the drive.
After about 2 hours it indicated I had updated Southern England but it doesn't show the new A5/M1 link road so I suspect it hasn't updated.
-
Not sure new roads works like that. It's all dependant on when the map provider updates new roads/estates properly. If they don't then no matter what you do it still won't show new places.
-
Even the "new" maps when we get them are months out of date. Roads missing, speed limits that have been changed, etc. There are a few times I have apparently been driving through a field .
