Title: Changes to VW offers - do they apply to cars already ordered but not delivered?
Post by: Arnold_Lane on 13 July 2017, 13:16
I notice today that VW have increased their finance contribution by £500 and are now offering 2 years free servicing (as opposed to for £149) if taking out VW PCP finance.

Does this change apply to people who have cars on order but not yet received them?

Yes, the finance is signed at time of car delivery to the customer, so whatever offer is current is the one that will be applied

I have just spoken to my dealership about the same thing. I am due to collect on Monday but signed an agreement 4 weeks ago with the 1K contribution.

I was told at the time of paying my deposit that if there was a change in the finance deal being offered I would be given the option of both the one available at time of deposit AND whatever the deal was at time of collection. Ive been told I am going to get the additional £500 and the free services so worth £649 over the other deal.

I've noticed that the base price for the Golf has increased by £400 since I ordered back in May. If it's possible to take advantage of the new finance offer does that mean VW can insist on using the new base price instead of the one on my order paperwork...?

I've emailed my salesman to ask. I did discuss this with him as I ordered and he suggested an improved deal was unlikely but if it appeared he'd move me over.  Time to see if he's true to his word

Response from the sales guy ...

Please see below the VW UK terms and conditions of the Golf Event;

Orders must be customer tagged in SLi and proposed on Connect OnLine during the event. (7 to 25 July in UK and 28 July to 15 August in NI) This gives you one day after the event finishes to make sure all orders and service plans have been proposed online
Cars must be handed over and registered by end of September
Existing customer orders do not qualify. De-tags will be monitored closely during the event
Orders taken during the event but not delivered by end of September will have the additional deposit contribution and free service plan reclaimed

So unfortunately VW will not allow existing customer orders be eligible the £1500 deposit contribution and the free servicing, also VW put the price of the GTI up by £400 on the 3rd July, so the Golf event offer is not that much better.

I wouldn't be so quick to take his word for it. VW dealers are the Arthur Daley of the 21st century but in cheaper suits.

Just looked at the T&Cs on the VW site regarding the offer. "Offer available for vehicles ordered from 7th July 2017 until 24th July 2017 and delivered by 30th September 2017 from participating Retailers during the Golf Event. Excludes Golf SV and E-Golf." I'm picking up my new GTI on Monday and an extra £649 would have been nice!

That's exactly the same response I've had from my sales chap (JCB), so I guess anyone who is getting this on an existing order have got a dealer prepared to 'de-tag' then tag an order and run the risk of VW spotting it and doing something about it.

The style package is also on offer during 'the golf event'

From VW Website:

Get the Golf Style Package† during the Golf Event for just £321 (5Dr) / £306 (3Dr), a saving of £34 on a 5 door and £66 on a 3 door versus the cost of the individual pieces.

The Golf Style Pack includes:
Golf R – Matt Chrome Mirror Caps
Rear bumper protection – stainless steel optic‡
Rear Chrome Strip
Door Sill Trim 3/5 Door

†Not suitable for R-Line
‡Rear bumper protection - stainless steel optic pictured top right available to buy in addition to the Golf style pack for £153 fitted, inc. VAT
.

I quite like the golf R chrome mirror caps and the bumper protection might be useful, but does anyone know if this pack can actually be fitted to a GTi? I.e. Are the mirror caps only for R models and does the GTi not already come with illuminated door sill trims?

Hi Guys,

I too am interested if anyone has had any luck with this so far. I called customer services twice and they were useless. Used the online chat and was told that the dealer may be able to do something but that i might have to cancel my order and redo it which seems quite silly to me as surely this would create more work for VW (i currently have a confirmed build week) I've spoken to my dealer to see what they could do, Ill let you guys know when i hear something!

I would think if you cancel and reorder then you will incur the price rise VW recently applied. At least if you stick with it then VW should honour the deal you originally struck if they aren't able to give you the current deal.

Ordered a new GTi last Friday - invoice showing the 1500 deposit contribution, 2 free services as part of the deal.

30 September delivery cutoff wasn't showing on the offer T&C's on the VW website then, also this wasn't mentioned at any point. Could be interesting if it doesn't turn up by the end of Sep!

VW will honour my existing deal (1K deposit contribution) but i would prefer to be on the new deal as even with the price increase (£400) i would be better off as i would get £1500 deposit contribution and 2 free services plus i have noticed that the Guaranteed future value is about 1K higher thus making the monthly payments lower which is what i'm after as i will be using mine as a company car. Just seems silly that i may have to cancel and re order as surely this is more work for VW as it stuff's up their production schedule (my build week is confirmed) and more paperwork for the dealer. The only inconvenience to me is a slightly longer wait time which to be honest i'm not too bothered about!

Indeed! Looking at GTI Jal's dealers email he said the following
Quote
Orders taken during the event but not delivered by end of September will have the additional deposit contribution and free service plan reclaimed

Interesting to know what is meant by "reclaimed" E.g. The dealer will have to reclaim from VW this offer or The offer will be reclaimed meaning VW will take it off you.....

If you've done the maths and you're satisfied the new deal is better than your original deal (even with longer wait) then go for it.

Re the increased GFV, good news if you plan to hand the car back. However if you intend to buy it then obviously your balloon payment is higher and you will have paid out slightly more in interest.

Like I said earlier, my Dealership said they will give me the option of both offers (1k deposit or the 1.5k and the free services), I collect Monday AM so I will let you know if they are going to honour what they've said....

you've got a slightly less than a 3 month window to get this deal... given that they have a summer factory shutdown, it seems unlikely you'd ever get a performance golf delivered in time from a factory order. If they have some vehicles being built already, you might get one, but a brand new order?

I went to my dealership today and asked about the new promotional offer, initially the guy said no because the car is tagged or something,  then he came back and said he phoned up the finance section and they would give me the new deal. 😀😀 So worth asking your dealer about it. I will hopefully pick my car up next week on Friday.

My thoughts exactly - if you've got a factory order then effectively you've signed for a certain price but have no control over what deal you will actually get if they strictly enforce the delivery cutoff date. Surely the deal should only be for cars in stock or otherwise be available if the car is ordered during the promotion regardless of delivery date. Not sure they've thought this one through properly

Picked mine up this morning.

1) Dealer gave me the option of both offers, obviously took the 1.5k/free service.
2) No price increase.
3) Slightly worse MGFV.
4) Dealer said they always offer the deal at the time of the deposit AND the time of collection, customer can choose.

Hope this helps those who manage to get a collection or create an order in the current offer period.

You've got a good dealer. Just make sure you get some pictures up of your car

Will do in the next few days, if you are on the GTI - MQB - R Facebook site there are a few collection snaps on there. Just drove it back 60 miles from the dealers. Outstanding car, great colour (tungsten), only gripe I have is the fingerprints on the Discover Nav so no biggie. Got a laptop screen cloth on order.

Just requested to join, I never knew there was a group on fb.

edit: Just seen your car and it looks awesome, it's strange that the rear badge is silver though. Both GTI badges on the car should be red since you've got the performance.

Listers, Stratford Upon Avon. I would 100% recommend them to be honest.

Regarding the badges, the dealer said sometimes they come with silver rear, sometimes red... Not sure what to do with it.

Interesting, Im guessing its probably easier if the car is on the dealership as then if you go for the new deal they probably just cancel the old one and create a new "sale" with the new deal so no "detaging and retagging" on their system. Probably wont be able to get this myself as my car is due to be built week commencing 31st of July so the deal will have ended by the time the car is on the dealership. Also i found the MGFV is now higher on the GTD (what ive ordered) so makes this deal even more attractive for me! I spoke to my dealer on Monday asking for an update and he said he is still on with it so fingers crossed!

The impression I got from Listers Stratford Upon Avon is that no one there knows anything about the product they are selling or servicing.

I see VW have resorted back to the old £1000 deposit, £149 for 2 years servicing for cars ordered July 1st to 30th September.

haha! My R came via them as it happens. Guess that goes for most of them, occasionally you get an enthusiast like Lee at Cheltenham
