I have a GTI Performance on order that is due mid September and have a question about what TPMS system is now fitted with the factory spec.
On the VW configurator it states that the GTI now comes with the eletronic tyre monitoring system and links to this page (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/car-safety/tyre-pressure-flat-tyre-monitoring).
My previous Golf had the ABS system so did not require the valve sensors in each wheel, so it was easy to swap to my winter wheels just having to do a TPMS reset once the new wheels were fitted. I may now need to get sensors fitted to the winter wheels at a cost of ~ £150+, unless there is a way via TPMS to disable the elctronic system and revert to the ABS system when I have the winters fitted.
Can anyone with a facelift mk7.5 GTI confirm this change?
If you have the electronic system you should get an actual tyre pressure reading for each wheel in the display.

From the cars I've seen so far and looking at photos I've taken of them they don't look like they have the sensors in the wheels. You need a large pillar of salt when reading anything from VW

I have a 7.5 and can confirm it's just the usual ABS tyre pressure monitoring.

If you can PM me your chassis/reg number I can check 100% for you,

Will do so when it has been built.
Thanks

Thanks. That is good to know.

Don't think they've ever had the full fat tyre pressure monitoring system on golfs. Never had it on any of mine although it is and always has been an option on Tiguans. Can be retro fitted though.

It's also something you don't want to have, I had huge problems with it telling my my spare was flat in my CC so I just disabled it with VCDS

The valves also corrode and the bits attached to the inside of the rims need replacing/servicing too. It's a bit pointless really and won't ever replace checking them yourself as you should do regularly.

It's abs and was previously abs on the mk7.

It is not something that I want and would be much happier if it is just the ABS system. I had the electronic system on a previous Audi and the vibration on rough road surfaces would cause an alarm to come up with the nearside front tyre pressure sensor. There was one concrete section of the M25 that would always set it off. Not what you want when cruising along in the fast lane
I agree nothing beats a manual check and the ABS system is a helpful back up.
