I had the first bit of the black 'enhancement' done to the white Golf today. The back half of the roof wrapped in gloss black to continue on from the pan roof.

Nice job, looks really smart. Are you going to do the mirror caps too?
-
Yes, mirror caps, the 'blade' under the front foglights and a rear bumper top protector. Black 17" wheels will follow once I've decided which ones.
-
Do you think though that just black wheels might be a bit too much? Perhaps black with silver highlights? What engine have you gone for?
-
Very smart.

One of Jo's mates has a white Fabia with a black roof, mirrors and wheels which works really well. Black with silver highlights could work too, but that would most probably mean diamond cut. I really don't want to go down that road again.
Engine wise, it's a 1.6 110 diesel with DSG. Dull, but does the job. Sometimes you have to take a backwards step. If each car is replaced with something more expensive and faster, there comes a point where there is nowhere realistically to go.

A mate has the same engined Golf with DSG, I was impressed with the performance and the quality which was the clincher in going for my GTI. Don't blame you with the diamond cut, love them but there are certainly disadvantages!

Roof looks good

Like the detailing on the spoiler

That's a funny looking GTI.... #golfgtiforum

Indeed, just like the GTDs and Rs etc....
All are welcome! Nice to see something a bit different.

Indeed, it does look good for a Golf Match

A great example of a true classic dubber36. Love it!

I'm trying to buy one exactly like that, every month or two I jive the guy a shout to see if he'll change his mind about keeping it. Less than 60k on the clock and completely original.
-
Both cracking looking Golfs :afro:
One thing I'd say about putting 17's on the Match is maybe think about picking up a set of 17" scirocco wheels. They run a much better offset (ET41) and are 8" wide. If you run 225 tyres on them they'll sit nice and square.
The mk2 needs no intro, a lovely example full stop.
How about a caravan shot too!
-
Lower offset wheels would look a bit silly on the standard highrise suspension and I have no intention of lowering it and spoiling the ride, so going to stick with something standardish.
The caravan doesn't live at home, but I'll no doubt take some pics when it's been dragged by the Amarok, proper Pikey styley.
-
There are three Golf mk7's with non sports suspension within a few yards of my house and they'd all carry off lower offset wheels without looking like a Tiguan.
-
Pics needed.
-
Whilst offset can help for me after market wheels on a stock ride height when it comes to recent VWs always looks a bit Halfords even if BBS, OEM are more paleetable but i remember seeing a lot of mk5 TDs running moss reps, I was never convinced with the TSWs on the R estate during the winter, however, wifey carries the 18" rotary look very well on hers
-
The other black bits are been done as I type. Pic will of course follow.

Black mirrors look great as do the blades on the front bumper, wasn't sure about that when you said but they look much better than before. Not so sure about the bumper protector though. Have you decided on your new wheels yet?
-
I'm not too sure about the bumper protector either. I thought it would be a good idea, not to save scuffs as we are very careful, but the crap always sits on that lip. The rest of the car can look spotless and dirt sitting on the bumper looks messy. I thought it wouldn't show up as much if the top of the bumper was black.
I give it a couple of weeks and if I'm not feeling it, it can come off.
-
I had a VW one when I bought the car, grey with ridges, but they hadn't fitted it properly so water collected under it and it marked the bumper and the lower lip of the boot lid so off it came. Perhaps a grey or even an aluminium one would look better?
-
Can't see the photo's at the moment but you guys who are protecting the top of the rear bumper - does the boot lid not hit any protection you have? My rear bumper has a line across it where the boot lid has touched it (I don't know how though).

Mine is just black vinyl. I had a RGM Rearguard on my last but one Passat. Over time that rubbed the paint off the corners on the tailgate.
-
Some things look better in the flesh than in photos so I'm sure that bumper guard looks ok in the flesh and if nothing else it will help (hopefully) to prevent paint damage.
I do like the black and white theme, I'm quite partial to a bit of a black and white theme on a car.
-
It's looking great Simon. Love the black gloss mirrors, and the front, looks quite a distinguished Golf now. The bumper guard looks smart but I'm not a fan of them, though they serve a very useful purpose as it's impossible to avoid bumper lip scuffs no matter how careful you are. I just don't like anything stuck on the paintwork really.
I use the low, low tech solution - a towel, one of my retired microfibre drying towels that stays rolled up just inside the boot, ready to be unrolled and draped over the lip when needed. Not fancy, but it works.

As I said earlier, it's not really there as a protector, more to disguise the crap that sits there as soon as it rains.

In that case rather look at the crap than a lip protector.
