I'm gonna upgrade my edition 35 which is now four years old. I've loved it but in a position for the upgrade. Probably asked before but stuck on colour and what extras to have. Had leather in the last two cars but don't find it rewarding enough for the £ thinking sunroof this time. Thank you.
-
IMO, 3 door DSG in Lapiz and silver Prets with 90% tints, Dynaudio, Reversing Camera and DCC.
-
I bought my second hand R a couple of months ago. It had a sunroof which I was not looking for in particular. Have to say I love it. Have it open all the time, even at night. It's way better than having the window down as less drafty and can relly hear the car more as had mods. Would not want to be without now.
-
Prets and DBP. Just look at Booth11's in all it's glory
Anything else is just sprinkles on the top
-
Prets?
-
Pretoria alloys.
I'd go for Lapis Blue personally if I were ordering an R. I know some say it's too common on the R now, but for me no other colour comes close.
-
Thanks for that those are first choice wheels, I love the blue too but a customer I work for just received his in grey and it looked stunning with black prets😉
-
Tumeric Yellow, black prets, cf mirror caps, 3dr and dsg. Standard interior and suspension. No fancy extra cost electronics, it's a car, it's for enjoying the drive not playing with buttons
-
DSG
Dynaudio
Pretorias
Keyless
Pretorias without a shadow of a doubt. If you fancy a sunroof for a change, go for it, not my cup of tea but I can see the appeal.
Colour ??? Now Reflex Silver (which was my favorite colour for the R) has gone it's a bit of a lacking palette imo. I love Turmeric Yellow with Black Prets, black mirrors and 90% rear tints, if you are brave enough! I like the Indium Grey but its just too common on other VWs. White Silver is a modern colour but doesn't know whether it's white or silver, lol. Black can look lovely but a labour of love to maintain.
-
Thanks for advice people, the wheels defo prets mk5 was black lovely when polished nothing looks nicer but lots of downsides. Have white at the mo but easy peezy to clean but no reward. Saw a yellow today in the sunlight and looks gorgeous but for me not really a sports car colour. Think still favouring the Lapis blue🤔
-
Yellow is definitely a sportscar colour, very popular on Ferraris and Lamborghinis, and without wanting to offend anyone, I don't really see a fast Golf as a sportscar anyway. But the yellow is really distinctive, perhaps I like it because of my midlife crisis

The R and Clubsport do have sports car performance
That yellow with black prets and caps is very tempting

You think so, Chavs, Tarts colour Here goes especially for Booth. Unless it matches her nail varnish! Seriously people that's a FORD color, in yer face. We are way more classy. These pics my lady took at Swindon on collecting her polluted coolant GTI, she has pics of Kit to cure it. For when have same issue? OK here goes. Not great but give the lady a break, she's a fan.

Only two things wrong with that, number of doors and chrome mirror caps. Colour is mega!

Performance alone does not equal a sportscar, I don't like them myself, but an MX5 is more of a sportscar, a GTI/R is a very fast, practical hatchback and as such a much better allrounder, but not a sportscar.

Your pics are wasted on me, I've seen plenty on VWROC.
Ford ST yellow is quite different, I drove past one this evening. Yellow is very much a sports car colour. The R (mk7 and mk7 facelift) is an expensive moderately fast shopping trolley, I think it can carry off a bit of "chav".
Keep fishing.
-
I have seen 2 yellow Golfs in the flesh. Lovely colour.
An MX-5 is just a roadster. It does not have sports car performance. Though it does have the correct number of seats
-
The metallic yellow Golf R pic from behind looked like a Peugeot 306 GTI-6 from the 1990's. Infact on first glance I thought it was for a second
-
Much as I loved lapiz on my three door it was hard work to look after and experienced a few issues with it.
I sold my Ed35 and my take on these is:
Love the lapiz but also them in white (way easier to take car of)
I loved the prets but the cadiz have grown on me
Standard seats are great but for me lacking the x factor and i thought the leather gave the interior a lift
Keep it simple on the options box ticking
I loved my Ed35 (and what i did to it) and the performance in the R is way too easy in comparison, which is why I find the R a bit soul less but a superb daily
-
Essential base spec for me would be Lapiz (the only colour for me), 3dr, DSG, Prets, 90% tints and Sunroof.

You are so right I knew it rang a bell, I had a lovely 306 XSI in the 90s and test drove a 6 in blaze yellow.
Loved the 306 shape and still doesn't look dated or to dissimilar to the current Golfs

But I think the yellow that VW do in other countries is much better

That R yellow is gorgeous :drool:I honestly would be tempted  Anyone know what it's called, it looks flat/gloss & non metallic ?
-
Agreed that the VW yellow is (much) nicer than the Ford colour and looks good on that R, but it's still a bit of gamble if you have an eye for resale ease and prices.
Obviously on a Ferrari or Lambo it's a no-brainer, which one day I hope to demonstrate!

Gleb, German for yellow and it is one of their 'individual' colours.
-
There is no doubt that the golf R and Gti interiors are far superior than the Ford ST and RS models, however imo Ford have a much better Colour Palette, "Moondust Silver", "Tangerine Scream", "Nitrous Blue" and "Spirit Blue" are just an example.
-
Thanks for that those are first choice wheels, I love the blue too but a customer I work for just received his in grey and it looked stunning with black prets😉
Black Pretorias look amazing! I have them on my 3 door Lapiz blue. They are difficult to keep clean, but it's so worth it!

In the flesh it is a fantastic colour. I saw it for a while at close quarters (in slow moving traffic) and it does have a gorgeous pearl finish which pics don't convey well. Looked amazing in the sun. Always had a big soft spot for the ST in Orange and now Yellow. Just couldn't put up with the plasticky interior.

It is a bit like oryx white, very hard to photo but unlike oryx even on a dull day tangerine screen looks great(oryx looks like flat white)
Friend of mine has an ST3 Focus and it really looks good but apart from the fantastic seats the interior looks cheap.
-
That Focus looks like custard made with one too many egg yolks....
-
Both of the yellows are honking....

+1 in agreement for the focus but I luv the Golf

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a28225/sports-car-definition/ (http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a28225/sports-car-definition/)
"In the postwar era, a "sports car" was any car that seated two, had a soft top, and could be used for competition.
... there are cars out there that should not be referred to as "sports cars"
•Hot hatches, like the GTI
... the term "sports car" to apply to things that are truly sports cars, or close to them. The Miata. The Porsche 718 Boxster (not the 718 Cayman)."
According to that article the MX-5 aka Miata is a proper "sports car". Hot hatches are definitely not.
-
Perfect spec - 3dr / DSG / Inidium Grey / Dynaudio / Black Mirror Caps / Black Prets / 90% Tints / Akrapovic Exhuast
-
Perfect spec for me will also be my current car: 5 door Golf R in oryx white. Carbon mirror caps (look awesome in the sun), pretorias, dcc, nav pro, dynaudio, climate windscreen + phone prep, rear view camera.

Sitting in the dentists waiting room the other day.Reading a copy of EVO mag.Pleasure before the pain.
They obviously rated the R very highly.Comparing it to the legendary MK2 GTI 16V.'A modern day equivalent'.
They reckoned you should forego the wheel upgrade.Stick with the standard wheels and spend the cash on DCC.
Of course i drive a diesel so i'm just saying.....
