I am amazed by how efficient this car is compared to my previous 1.6T petrol. This is the results of tonight's trip:

I had ACC on the majority of the way set to 70 with the occasional blast when needed

 How did you do that?! :).
I am not near that on my Facelift

Since start could be 5 mins driving lol

Fortunately it tells you how long it's over in the picture...

And over a journey distance of 137 miles at an average speed of 54 mph, that's pretty impressive.

Bet he tried hard to get it to 50 mpg but didn't quite make it !

Bet he tried hard to get it to 50 mpg but didn't quite make it !
I dropped down to 50mph for the last 10 mins and it wouldn't budge from 49!
I don't usually drive like this but I just wanted to see what the car could do on a run. Some average 50 zones on the motorway really helped though.

I did a round trip to Wakefield from Birmingham this weekend in ECO (with aircon on all the way) also set to 70 and I was blasting it sometimes (to avoid the odd idiot) and got 46 average which I thought was good.

Wow ok fair play

Thats news I've been secretly wanting to here, hodge is your car parked up at Leeming?
If not I've found one identical!

That may or may not be mine
Are you in the market for one?

Ye I ordered one mid may through dtd, the wait is killing me already!
Yours was the first gti I saw and that pretty much sold it. Doing a 320 mile trip to Wales and back each week so this thread has reassured me some what!
Happily sacrifice 10-15mpg from my diesel to have a petrol! I guess yours is still being Rubin so you should only see improvements?

Ahh don't tell me you went for the Performance?? I wish I had waited for it but I ordered too soon back in Feb! I am in a similar boat with a 260ish round trip every weekend, I expected low 30's but I'm quite surprised how efficient it actually is. Hopefully with a few more thousand on the clock things will loosen up and get better.
What spec did you end up going for?

Yep! Been waiting for the performance pack to pop up on the Configurator, 3dr manual with performance pack, Issac blue, 90% tints, pano sunroof and dynaudio. Stuck with the Parker wheels for now, still debating swapping for the Brescia. Will have to do a comparison when it arrives!
Planning a road trip straight up to john o'groats on delivery to run it in!
I'm expecting the pp manual to be slightly worse on fuel than your auto but would be happy with 44mpg, it's all motorway and I lift share so not too bothered!

Sounds very good, I'll keep my eye out for it around camp  I have seen the Parkers in the flesh and I actually quite like them so I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
The 6 speed manual should have similar gear ratios and if you're not flooring it I should imagine the mpg should be quite similar to be honest. Good luck trying to not floor it when you're running it in.

A big part of me is wishing I had ordered the standard GTI back in February. I'm sure the GTI Performance will be worth the wait, but the summer will nearly be over by the time mine arrives.
Enjoy your car!

Good things and all that. It'll soon be here and you will love it, rattles, creaks and all

My first, 31mpg

If the Golf is anything like the Fiesta ST-3 I currently own, you will see much better MPG once you go past 15k miles. At that point the engine seems to be fully bedded in, I recently got 48 MPG on a 50 mile motorway run, followed by 15 miles on A/B roads and a bit of town driving at the end. That is astounding for a 200 BHP pocket rocket.
I think a lot of people pick up a new car and expect the manufacturers MPG figures from the off. It takes quite a while for the engine to bed in.

Really? Is there people stupid enough still to think the manufacturers figures are nothing but pie in the sky?
-
I always take at least 10% off any manufacturer figures and even that's optimistic. It's more like 15 to 20 😁.
@maxwell I'd be very careful doing a road trip of that length straight from pick up. Quite a few stories of increased oil consumption on some cars that have that kind of run in.

I didn't see maxwell's post about going up to John o' Grotes after pick up. Definitely wouldn't recommend doing that unless you doing it all on A&B roads and even then I'd be thinking of doing it after a thousand miles of normal driving over a few weeks.

I can get within 10% of the manufacturers figures in both my A3 and ST-3, in my experience they are not far off the mark once run in properly and driven as economically as possible.

So how does (UK) mpg differ to other mpg figures? 32mpg seems about right for a 230bhp hot hatch. Anyone getting 40+ must be driving like Miss Daisy..

If that's a serious question, US gallons are smaller.

If I could manage to attach an image (dumb me), getting @ 35 out of a pre-facelift PP without any long runs and with a decent amount of 5 mph crawling.
Almost makes up for the lack of other stuff, like the sound, though that gap is filled in other ways.

Cheers for the advice although I won't literally be driving from the dealership to john ogroats. After returning to north Wales from jcb vw and some commuting the car will be ready for a road trip up north I'm sure!
My a3 gets 65mpg on my commute and audi claim 67mpg, apart from the hills of the Pennines on the m62 it's a very economical 160 mile commute, all motorway and about 30 miles of 50mph zones so quite confident the golf will do 40+mpg. Then at the weekends I couldn't care less what it does as it will be used for what it was intended 😎

I've just done my first motorway 100 miles round trip today in Gti CS and average was just under 34mpg with speeds between 70 - 75 (honest!) and that was in Eco mode....only 760 miles total so far. Its very similar to my previous M235i in that dept, in every other dept for me the CS has it licked I'd say .....apart from a straight line blast

Got to be happy with that seen as the car is still being run in!
How does the soundtrack compare to the 235?
-
With the beemer I never really noticed that many exhaust pops..(unlike Cooper S prior to that)...in the short time with the CS it seems to have a more entertaining & enjoyable soundtrack, I'm presuming this is down to soundaktor but I thought I'd read somewhere that it has a different back box/tailpipes to the standard Gti so maybe that also affects it?...either way I like what I hear
