Thanks for letting us know
-
Is it possible to update the maps on the standard Golf NAV?
-
Yes, perfectly possible.
On Standard Nav you just update the SD card in slot 2... copy the new files onto there and stick it back in. Nothing else to do, the system reads maps from the card.
On NavPro you have to build an SD card with an update and let it copy it from the card to the SSD on the NavPro.
Its simpler with basic Nav...
-
Is this the official way to update maps in VW navigation systems? Only ask as I have 3 years of free map updates so I'd like to use that before sourcing them elsewhere.

Build an SD card? What on earth are you on about  you just need to drop the unzipped map data into the route of the card and that's it.
-
I've just managed to do it including being interupted by 2 power cuts.
That just about says it all

Well, depends if you want to use a big old card or only have a smaller one and need to just put the relevant version on there - the zip file contains MIB 1 and 2 and now maybe 3 data!
-
The longest part is unzipping the file and I don't think you can just put parts of the map data on. Granted a high speed 32gb card is best but it's a fairly simple job.

If you use the link I provided above, you can, as I have, just add the regions that you want, its a much quicker download and upload on to the unit - I don't think I'll need the map for Greece and Latvia!

These are the contents of the latest file;

Presumably MIB3 is the unit fitted to the facelift? I haven't tried yet but as there appears to be no MIB3 data, does that mean there's no map update available for the newer unit yet?
When I follow the navigation.com drop down menus there's no option to select a year past 2016.
-
Yes, MIB3 will be the FL units, to work with the AID.
I wouldn't expect to see map data for those being distributed until the November update though - they will already have data and the first FL cars were what, April 2017?
I'm rather hoping the bloody thing will be able to do an update over wifi while parked on my drive, but we shall see :D
-
As far as I can see, only the update for Nav Pro is available so far. Presumably the standard Nav update will follow along soon.
-
Nope, both are available from the site linked.
Bit early for MIB3 updates!!
-
They all use the same map data so you won't get anything different from an mib1 to 2 to 3. The unit might look and display things slightly differently but the actual map data will be exactly the same.

Which is why I was checking about updates for the MIB3 facelift units. Presumably there won't have been a special mid-cycle map package created between November 2016 and May 2017 for the new units, so they will be using at best November 2016 maps.
Maybe I'll go and grab the SD card from my car and see what the contents actually are.
-
The data might be the same, but the way the update package works you have platform ID's in the configuration files and I think that also means the map data is duplicated for each...

Just checked, the files on the card are dated October 2016.
-
Thats the november update data then.... so there should be a May 2017 MIB3 package somewhere...

I ran the DiscoverCare program and it seems to recognize the SD card but tells me I have the latest update for Gen 2.
-
Last time the update for the Discover Media was at least two weeks after Discover Pro on Discover Care

The link goes to the Nav Pro download. If you go through the selection of model to get the option for standard Discover Nav, the latest download is November 2016. Can't see any other options for the standard Discover Nav at this time. Please post a direct link, if you can.
-
Well, MIB1 download May 2017 is here:

Just depends if it is the same or contains both like the earlier screenshot suggests. Can't get away with that at work right now! :)

157 are old maps. New ones are 161, that's what's on my nav pro.
-
Correct - this is now my MIB1 Pro after updating the other night

Thanks phope, I'd tried the VW DiscoverCare app route first direct to sd but painfully slow so currently getting it direct to mac from your first weblink, cheers
-
....when I finally got the file downloaded and unzipped both the MIB folders were dated Dec '16?? I can't find how you can download the latest update file showing the '17 folders?

Thanks for that mate, I tried via that route, it does end up taking me to a May 2017 update page (if I select 2016 Gti, no 2017 vehicle option yet) and the full zip file is 23.7GB starting P161_N60....., what was throwing me was someone's post showing their MIB folders downloaded with a modified date of 12/06/2017.....thinking about it this is probably just the date they've downloaded on their machine, when I open those folders the dates of the map contents are from December '16 which could well be same on theirs? Apologies if my ramblings make no sense!!:)......I'll try the sd in the car and see what it says, not having had the car that long I didn't want to risk messing it up.....cheers

Updated my MY16 MIB2 DiscoverPro yesterday and the May 2017 maps are 161, and Nov 2016 were 157... as mcdaddy said
Couldn't get DiscoverCare software to work again - reported no updates. I've had zero success with that software, but the manual update is pretty easy anyway, just the size of the files is a pain!
Thanks OP
-
Finally got mine updated to the 17/18 maps after only about 10 or 12 attempts ......success appears to be down to giving up trying on my MacBook and using Win Pc instead, I used a fast USB3 stick formatted to NTFS and took only 30mins to update in vehicle.
-
Grrr.
Tried everything BUT again was unable to get update my MIB2 DiscoverPro as although following various guidelines to the letter i still get "No data available, please insert a source with software update data" error message.
Any thoughts?

I kept getting those messages everytime I tried sticking the sd card in car to update, are you on Windows or Mac?....pretty sure my problems were apple related to hidden files being put on the card whilst formatting or whilst transferring the downloaded data to it on my MacBook. After I formatted the usb stick in my Win pc to ntfs file system I then copied onto the root of the usb drive the following (which I had extracted from the full download zip file of about 25gb size) - MIB1 & MIB2 folders, metainfo2.txt, P161_N60S5MIBH3_EU_NT.md5 - so all I see when I put stick in my laptop are the 2 MIB folders, the txt file and the .md5 doc file.
Once I'd done that and then tried again in the car it instantly saw it as an update which was a relief!....I ended up using the usb3 stick with it being a lot quicker transfer capabilities than my sd card, it only took about 30mins and it was all done....

Has anyone managed to update their 7.5 maps yet?

Has anyone managed to update their 7.5 maps yet?
Scrap that... I've just put my SD card in and launched DiscoverCare and it told me the 2017/2018 update is available, so I'm downloading now.

All sorted.

The files still aren't listed for anything beyond 2016 on the Navigation site.

November 2017 must be due but no sign yet...

Definitely is out, I think you have to insert the card and then click on the 'New Device' to initiate it, at least I did.

Thanks for that, I checked the vw website then went straight to this thread which I'd bookmarked
