Hello all,
Just pulled the trigger on a new Mk7.5, after playing ball with a few dealers ended up walking away with the a 5 door manual with the 90% rear tint.
As I was keen to avoid the long waiting times, compromised a bit on colour and ended up ordering the Tungsten Silver 245 PS Engine. Dealers say the car will be delivered late July. Essentially I had an idea of an acceptable price in mind, and although they came very close to that, I was offered the 245 PS engine at the same price as it could be sourced more quickly.
I asked the (inexperienced) salesman if this was the Performance Pack edition, he says 'no it is just the engine you don't get anything else'. The VW website is no help, when you spec the 245 engine it doesn't seem to add anything to the included spec.
Anyone able to shed any light? Also I would love to see any pics you may have of the Tungsten Silver, they had a 1.4 TSI in the colour and it looked great but would like to see it with the red detailing.
Many thanks in advance.

If it definitely says 245PS on the order form then it's definitely at Performance Pack GTI so will have the bigger brakes and the awesome VAQ diff.
Unfortunately the VW website is notoriously full of vagaries and errors, you'll get much better info on here.
Tungsten looks great on GTI's, it really compliments the black and red accents and looks very classy. It should be a pretty easy colour to look after too.
Talk-torque and McMaddy on here have Tungsten GTI's (pre facelift but you'll get the idea)
And welcome aboard.

"sourced more quickly" I hope you are right. I ordered a GTI Performance a month ago, as soon as the car was available to be ordered. With my current build week it will be a September delivery.
I'm surprised that the GTI Performance is available so soon as it was only available to order in the UK 1 month ago. (Details in my sig below.) The standard GTI has been available for about 3 months (I think). And standard cars are starting to be delivered now.
The 245 PS engine is the GTI Performance. In addition to 15 PS more power it has 20 Nm more torque, a VAQ electronically controlled mechanical limited slip differential, larger brakes with GTI printed on the red callipers and red GTI badges.

Maybe the car that the OP is getting is one that the dealer had already ordered that isn't 'locked down' in the system yet so the spec could be 'tweaked' to what the OP wanted.
Some options can add to the build timescales. The OP hasn't said what spec they ordered, but if it's fairly standard, that could be why estimated delivery is earlier than your expected September delivery.

Many thanks for the info and welcome folks.
The dealership said the car was already on order for the group of dealerships and was reallocated to me. I have now been given and order number this morning although they said it may take a few days to appear on the system.
Just checked the order form and it is 100% a 245 performance. I assume the salesman, who was a decent chap but had only been in the job for a month, just didn't know there were a few extras with the uprated engine.
I am trading in my Fiesta ST, which is an amazing car in my opinion, however it is to small and to be honest is a bit too lairy looking for a man of my years. Looking forward to the more refined GTI.
On the Tungsten Silver, I wanted pearl black, iridium or the lighter silver but having found some pictures online it is definitely growing on me!! They had a completely standard Tornado Red in stock, so there are some cars to be had straight away.
Edit, They also had a pearl black standard with the leather interior upgrade available in July. For me the standard seats look a lot better therefore this wasn't an option for me.
-
I think you'll really like Tungsten Silver when you see it in the flesh and as Daz Auto has said, it's easy to maintain.
Agree with you on the standard seats. Had the grey tartan in my mk6 GTD and have the red tartan in my Polo GTI and I really like them, and IMO they brighten up the interior nicely.
The waiting begins........but not too long
-
Yes I don't like waiting for cars...
When I bought my ST, I ended up taking a stock white over the ST blue because it was in stock. Big mistake in hindsight, would never buy a white car again. Although I did a test drive in a white CS yesterday and caught myself thinking about buying it!
Back on topic, I've just been reading about the problems with fog lights, has this been cleared up yet? I wonder if it will affect my order.

Any particular reason you wanted the GTI Performance? The majority of drivers will not notice the difference in daily driving.
The standard seats are nice. Though - having seen some good photos - the Art Velour seats and door trim, give the interior a more premium look.

... it was Exonian who said that, but I agree. It is probably the easiest colour to keep. After agonising for weeks I decided it was too conservative a colour for my GTI. Should a grey haired old man like me be getting a red GTI - having seen a few on the road - absolutely!

Great news, thanks.
Regarding the Performance, I didn't go into the dealership wanting the performance. I had agreed a price on the standard build on Carwow and popped in for a test drive. Ended up test driving a CS which was probably a bad idea.
When we were discussing the finance/delivery etc they offered me the Tungsten Silver with the PP at £250 more with the quicker delivery. They then threw in the paint protection (I think its called Protech) at no extra cost to sweeten the deal. I wouldn't normally bother with that kind of thing but seems like a no brainer for free?
So to summarise, I would have happily ordered a standard, but got the billy bonus PP for slightly more. Paid a shade over 25k with the additional rear tints, I'm sure there are people with a better price but I was happy with it overall given I live in the far, far north and there are usually very few discounts up here as there isn't the competition.

Is that an online deal you got? What dealership you in contact with?
-
15% is about the maximum discount on a new Golf GTi
-
That was with carwow, went to the best dealer and negotiated quite hard. Local dealer using carwow were quite close but wouldn't budge on delivery and didn't offer the PP.
Best price for me on carwow was listers in Stratford.

I do indeed have tungsten on my gti pp and have to say it's a cracking colour. I love mine and would order again with tungsten in a heartbeat.

Have you a picture of your Tungsten?

Great pics, many thanks both!
The colour is growing on me big time. It wasn't a colour I considered at all but I think I have been really fortunate now!

Thanks for posting pics Will. Cheers

£25k for PP, that's a bargain! I popped into a dealer for a test drive and they would have been happy to do a GTI at full list

is upgrading to the pp worth while? the reason i ask is because i don't drive fast, to be honest i'd almost call myself a sunday driver (meaning i'll stick around the speed limit or just over) i drive on motorways too but not often, it's mainly A+B roads and through town. i was thinking of the pp because of the bigger breaks as stopping quicker is always good if needed and the 7 speed box as i'd think it would be smoother (not raving at 4500 to get up a hill at 30mph). just 3 more weeks until my order goes in so need to get it right :) thanks

The kind of driving you do doesn't suggest that the PP would be that beneficial however what I would say is that when it comes to selling, a GTI with PP is going to be in more demand than one without. IMO its the first box that should be ticked before any other option

Do the bigger brakes reduce stopping distances? :undecided: The standard brakes are probably going to be able to stop the lighter standard GTI just as fast. For shorter stopping distances you should change the Bridgestone tyres for something better.
The bigger brakes will resist brake fade better. However, you will never experience brake fade given the way you drive.
The jury is still out on the advantages of the 7-speed box. On paper it is slightly faster and slightly more economical.
The third thing is the VAQ mechanical diff. Again, unless you like accelerating hard out of roundabouts you are never going to notice.
The forth thing is the small improvement to power and torque. Again, this will make no noticeable difference in everyday driving.
Is the performance pack worth it? Yes! Are you going to notice any difference in your daily drive? No! So is it worth it to you?
For the way you drive - have you considered another model with the new 1.5TSI Evo engine? That engine would probably suit your driving style better.

Just over 25k for the PP GTi sounds like a cracking deal to me.
VW Stratford are also my cheapest on carwow, but the price is £27.7k and that's on a non PP gti with indium grey and velour seats, so I'm struggling abit! You must have done some really hard negotiating!

No, you don't need it. I didn't need it either but I got it because I wanted it. Worth it every time I spot the GTI on the red calipers and in my mind I get the benefit of the diff on every corner (even though I don't) and the brakes will save me in an emergency (whereas the standard ones will probably do the job just as well). Just do it, you know you want to

3dr GTi Performance with met. paint & 90% rear tints is listed at £25,036.38 or a 5dr is £25,585.19 through DtD.
I tried CARWOW but max discount offered was 12%, whereas DtD are 15 to 16%.

in a way i wish i had of waited for the 7,5 gti but i got mine in jan so next time maybe ,i realy love the gti pp but i dont ever get time to use it the miles are only 400 at the moement as i am allways working ,but when i do go out in it i love very much !

i did consider it for a moment, but i've had my mk5 gti for 10 years now and tbh i couldn't see me buying anything else.. don't get me wrong i'll use the acceleration pulling off or overtaking but mostly i'll just plod along. but it's nice knowing there's extra if i need it.. thanks i think i'll be adding it to the list :)

Yeah I did negotiate pretty hard, bear in mind the VW finance offer of 1k toward the deposit in addition to the dealer discount.
Car appeared on the tracker today, it says the interior is titan black?? Build week is confirmed though!

Whoa, the car has just gone to in transit, 4 weeks delivery to the dealers. Wasn't expecting that.

They say that for standard Jacara Red trim for some reason. Guess the titan black refers to rest of interior such as dashboard, headlining, etc.
On that note, I do wish they would offer a light grey headlining as an option, the 'coal mine' interior does make it look a bit grim inside (IMHO, of course)

The mk3 and mk4 GTI's had light headlining and I hated that.
Sporty cars should have dark headlining inside and no chrome outside. Them's the rules.
Leave the light headlining to the dull models.

I've got black headlining in my ST and A3 Black Edition and I think I would only ever buy a car with this from now on. Glad the titan black isn't a different seat colour though, I'm a big fan of the GTI tartan

I agree. The headliner in my GTD makes it feel dark and oppressive compared with the light headliner in our A3.

Agreed... light head-linings are for SE and GL models....
