Title: Mk7 GTI Lights Questions
Post by: P6GTD on 29 May 2017, 14:05
A couple of questions which may have been asked & answered here many times since 2013 but I can't find definitive answers.

1) Does my vanilla 2017 pre-FL have Dynamic Cornering Lights? (I can see the Static ones working below 25mph)

2)Can I get a simple VCDS programme change to activate the second "R" DRL set or is some physical change required to the existing headlight component? There's some v confusing stuff out there on this subject.

1). Very unlikely. I'm not sure it was even a UK option, but on pre-FL it was bundled with lane assist. You can tell if the car has it at a glance if you look at your windscreen, the area where your rear-view mirror is attached. If there is a sizeable plastic covering on that windscreen area, that's the camera for lane assist/dynamic lights.

2). No. The R headlights are completely different and the inner "U" on the GTI lights are just plastic with no wiring / lights in them. You'd need to swap the headlights out... or fit some dodgy chinese versions. Neither option is advisable really.

I'm a bit confused by Joe's response to question 1, thinks he's referring to Dynamic Light Assist, which is not standard, but was a speccable option on UK pre facelift cars as part of Lane Assist package.

Your car will have both Static Cornering Lights (the small middle separate light in the headlight unit), and will also have Dynamic Cornering lights which are part of the main bi xenon headlight unit and swivel as you turn the steering wheel.  Both are standard as part of the bi xenon lights.

Thanks v much for taking the trouble to reply so promptly.
On question 1....this is my second Mk7 GTI and I still get confused by the owner's manual!
On question 2....shame! At least I now know.
Best wishes to all regular posters and readers, I love reading the forum.

If you put the car in sport mode and drive it at over 10mph and turn the wheel left to right with your main beams on you will see the dynamic corner lighting in use. In sport mode the amount the lights move in relation to the steering input is greater.

Also, in addition to above, if you go into driver profiles using your Mode button, in any mode you will see Dynamic Cornering Light in the menu set at whatever is appropriate for the given mode, and in Individual mode you can configure it as desired.

Sorry Rebecca, yeah I had "Dynamic light assist" in my head when I was typing that first reply! Which is obviously a very different thing.
So to answer that question again properly, yes - the pre FL cars do have dynamic cornering. I'd suggest setting them to "sport" mode as that makes the cornering more obvious / more aggressive.

Yeah, figured that Joe, it's easily done the way vw use similar terms for things. ACC being another example, wonder what acronym they'll give that at next incarnation, lol.

Yeah the Mk6 ACC is now Mk7 DCC, but the Mk7 has another ACC which is completely different OMG. :nerd:

Confused?  You will be, and aside from the renaming of ACC to DCC, and calling Adaptive Cruise Control ACC, in the early days of the mk7 I vaguely recall VW referring to the front assist system as ACC Anti Collision Control.

So ACCACC then . Can see why they changed it!
