Title: Dash cam wiring.
Post by: A13XDB on 25 May 2017, 18:07
Hope fully someone can help.

I have bought a dash cam and want to wire it straight into the fuse box behind the glove box.
The cable kit I have has a micro fuse connector so won't go into the 20A fuse holder for the cigarette lighter.
Which micro fuse position will provide power when the ignition is on and off when parked up.

Alex.

Would anybody no if you change the fuse behind the fuse box so the ciggy lighter works without the ignition on .and I left the dash cam plugged into the ciggy lighter all the time would it effect the battery and possibly drain the battery. This is on a new 7:5 gti thanks lee

It would drain the battery, yes. You can get a device which monitors incoming voltage level from the vehicle battery and will shut off the power if it gets too low; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-BlackVue-Vehicle-Recording-System-x/dp/B00LN2BZL2/ref=pd_sbs_263_8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=X28TV7YTJ2SG1ZF7J95Q
