Autoglym SRP is a product that's part polish, part glaze, part wax/sealant, so does a bit of everything.
An alternative might be a dedicated glaze topped off with a good wax. One suggestion would be:
Poorboys Black Hole Glaze (good for red cars as well as dark cars), followed by DoDo Juice Orange Crush colour charged wax.

I'm using Finish Kare FK1000p wax on mine and it gives a great gloss, lasts really well and is very easy to apply and buff off. I bought it for my wheels as it's a high temperature wax but thanks to a very helpful couple of forumites I tried it on the bodywork and pleased that I did. It wasn't expensive and goes a long way too so might be worthy of your short list?

As a general Polish/Compound I like to use Meguairs Ultimate compound (Available in Halfords), It breaks down very easily & requires very little effort for a great result.

AG is only powdery if you use too much. You only need a very small amount and need to work it until it's completely broken down.

that's interesting as I have the Poorboys stuff, which I used on my Black MK5..inconjunction with Natty paste..was good on Black, apart from white residue/powder..

Regarding powdery residue, see dubber's post above. Most often a result of using too much product. A bit like polish, glaze has to be worked until only a thin translucent layer is present, shouldn't really get powdery residue unless using a bit too much. As with most applications of polish/glaze/sealant/wax etc, less is more.

the glaze was fine tbh, it was the natty's paste that powdered up when I used on the Black MK5 5

Ah. I used Nattys Blue paste wax and the liquid version on my previous mk6 gti, and tbh didn't like either. Don't recall any issues with it being powdery, just didn't do anything for the DBP paintwork and not great on lifespan either which I could forgive if it gave a really good finish, but I found it to be very ordinary run-of-the-mill wax. It's ETTO though as I know others who really like it.
