Post by: golf gti 16valve on 03 October 2005, 19:06
Hi ppl,ive just managed to get myself a set of the wing brackets for the big bumpers, but how do i get my big bumper to fit them, i know how to fit the brackets to the wing etc but cant see anyway my bumper will so called "slide straight on" lol..its fitted with the original small bumper brackets on the actual big bumper itself not the wing, do the ones on the bumper need to be changed, thats what it looks like, the set i bought today was for the wings, not the bumper, can you buy the ones for the bumper seperate, hope this makes sense to you many thanks Tom

Hi ppl,........, hope this makes sense to you many thanks Tom

no sense at all!!

on your golf there should be a round guide clipped into the wing that the small bumper slides onto. you should have bought a bigger guide that is oval shaped that requires you drilling your wing to get it to clip on the wing. then the big bumper slides onto this new, longer guide and holds it in place properly.

jack your car up and lay under neath, youll see 2 chassis rails/bottom of the inner wings, a bit like funny shaped box section, near the front of the car youll see to access holes in them chassis rails, use a torch and have a look, youll see a nut up there i think its a 17mm socket youll need so bang a socket up and undo, theres 2 per leg remove them and then your bumper will slide out...

Can get to the top bolts through the indicator lense, unscrew and pop it out and then need to get a spanner on the top screw aswell, its wither 17 or 19mm socket.

dunno i just added to gaz's answer lol.

Think he wants to know how the bumper is meant to "slide on and off" as we keep putting it. Hence the post about the two mounting screws above the front subframe.

lol sorry guys, basicly wot i mean is,the guides that are on the bumper itself,do not look as if they will fit the brackets i have got for the wing, the brackets for the wings look much wider than the guide piece on the bumper, the original bracket that was on the wing was like a rubber grommit thing about 2cm,where as the brackets i have bought must be about 10cm roughly,

to fit new side brackets properly you have to undo the main bumper attatchment and slide the bumper off, then fitt your new side clips and then guide the bumper onto the side clips and then retighten your main connecting bolts on the chassis rail. you cant change the side clips by just bending bak the side and poppin em in... wont work and will look shate!!
