Title: Noisy when reversing.
Post by: Margy on 12 May 2017, 18:03
Hi all, had my GTi 4 months now & loving it. However it has developed a grinding type noise when being reversed off the driveway first thing in the morning, (without my foot on the brake). A sticky calliper maybe? 63 plate, 33,000 miles.

Cheers,

Nige

Sounds like the pads scraping rust off the discs.

With a brand new car, the discs are smooth and clean, but, as they wear and get hot while being used they corrode and develop a coating of rust. Overnight, they can rust more, if the car is left with warm discs and there is condensation in the air. The pads run very close to the discs, hence the noise as the rust is scraped off.

Check there is not a stone caught anywhere in the calliper.
