Title: New Member - Just ordered a 7.5 GTi PP through DTD
Post by: Fewie on 12 May 2017, 17:02
Hi guys, wanted to introduce myself.  New member after a short time lurking on here.

I'm from East Yorkshire and I've just placed an order for a GTi Performance Pack 5dr hatch through drive the deal at a 14.5% discount.  I've gone for a simple spec namely manual, 19" Brescia's and metallic paint.  The wife also convinced me to got for the Art velour optional interior as she's not a fan of the tartan

Tried to deal locally but my doorstep dealership wouldn't play ball so I've gone through drive the deal as I've heard good things.  Just had a confirmation mail telling me my dealer will be Kent so I've got a nice journey home of about 220 miles to get to grips with the car.

Been told to expect a call from the dealer Monday to confirm my spec, at which point I need to confirm my colour.  Current favourite is tungsten silver but I've got the weekend to decide.  My current car (Octavia vRS Diesel) is white and I fancy a change but most of the colours I did like on the 7.0 seem to have been discointinued now

According to the the local dealer the performance pack models are a 22 week lead at the minute so I beat settle in for a long wait!

I've just spoken to the very same dealer as mine was also ordered through DtD.

I've got a 5dr GTi PE on order and have just changed order from a manual to DSG. Dealer reckons on 16 or so weeks as it's already a car that they have ordered.

I have also had vRS Octavia's in the past, two and both diesel and both race blue.

My Octavia ended being white as it was free and I couldn't decide!  Liked race blue but was very common

@ Arnold, are you collecting or having driven delivery? The salesman eluded to a free train ticket or tank of fuel if I save them the hassle of having to deliver (which I probably wouldn't want them to do anyway)

I will be collecting, partly as it gives me a decent distance drive to familiarise myself with the car but it also allows me to stop over with relatives for a catch up (and induce a little jealousy over my new car ).

Yes, race blue was a popular vRS colour, probably because it used to be a vRS only colour. Now it's available across the range so that awful non metallic grey (primer?) seems to have taken over!

You don't see many about and it's an awesome colour so go with your first instinct and order it

On the drive home from work I've just seen 6 GTD's and 1 GTi!

My 1st instinct was white silver until I saw it in the flesh on a GTD.  like indium but it's a bit subtle, unless the red trim of a GTi would lift it?

I have used DTD twice now and have recommended to friends. Picked up my R at the end of last month so met James who I presume you have been speaking with then. He seems a good guy, told me he's been with the company 15 years. Picking it up yourself is definitely the way to go in my opinion. You get a full tank and get to know your car better on the drive home. I live in South Wales so it was a fair drive for me.

I've not spoken to James as yet. Waiting for his contact after giving my payment details to drive the deal.  It would be a 220 mile journey home for me but it's my preferred option at the moment, just have to get a train down.

You'll need to get across to London Victoria; it's about 40 minutes from there to Gillingham.  James will most likely pick you up if you ask nicely.  The process is simple and professional.  I bought my GTI from them (via DriveTheDeal) a year ago and it's been faultless.  Highly recommended.

From Yorkshire I'll be on the east coast main line into Kings Cross, then a quick walk to St Pancrass to catch a train to Gillingham.

I'm guessing that James will offer a full range of dealership services when he contacts me? I'm interested in taking the service pack but I'll likely source my own GAP and paintwork protection etc

I took the service pack option, James sent the options available through email but no pressure to take any up. Did think about the smart detail insurance for chips and scuffs etc but did not bother in the end. The dealership is outside the town centre so they will probably pick you up from station. He did mention this to me but in the end I did a part-ex on my GTI so drove there. The previous dealer in Liverpool picked me up from Lime Street station

Another vote for Tungsten! Looks great on the curves and creases of the Mk7/7.5, and it's relatively easy to look after - much easier than very dark colours. It seems pretty resistant to scuffs, rubs and swirls too. Lovely colour!

After seeing a Tungsten Silver at the weekend in both full sun and pouring rain, i've changed my order from IG to Tungsten. It was actually my first colour choice (as i prefer lighter metallic colours generally) but when i first enquired, it wasn't on the mk7.5 configurator.
