Hi Chaps, Haven't been on for a while and I'd forgotten all my login details so had to create a new account :undecided:
I know it's a very common question but the "search" isn't working at the moment.
I have an 09 Mk6 Golf Gti. It has 77,000 miles on now. Is it ready for a cam belt change now or not (could do with waiting to be honest but I want to do the right thing).
What is the interval?

The mk6 GTI has a timing chain, not a belt, so shouldn't need changing - in theory, the chain is a non-serviceable item.
Although the chain shouldn't need changing, VW made a number of revisions to the timing chain tensioner over the life of the mk6 GTI as there have been a number of tensioner failures. So, if your car still has the original tensioner it might be worth considering changing it to the latest version. Have a look at the 'Timing Chain Tensioner Failure list' sticky at the top of this (the mk6) section of the forum.

Find a VW or Audi specialist in your area and speak to them.
Ask for advice on inspection of the chain for stretching and inspection of chain tensioner.
Ask for cost to change for both jobs.
The tensioner is much easier. Its alot more involving to change the chain.
if you expect to keep it for a long time then maybe have both done.
