Title: MK2 GOLF H REG 8V GTI POORLY :(
Post by: coadyMK2 on 07 May 2017, 21:54
Hi Guys,

I have had my mk2 for 9 years and I don't drive it as much as I should, I took it out for the 1st time this year 2 weeks ago and she broke down on me. It started to judder then it back fired and cut out and the oil temp on the dash said 160 degrees :( I got towed home, tried it the next morning and it started, so I took it to a garage and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I went to pick it up and after driving for around 20mins it did the same again, but now it will no longer start! I would be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

The oil temp says 160 degree straight away so it must be a false reading.
Also the engine sounds really tappaty like theres no oil in it. ( not sure if this is related )

Many Thanks

Coady

I'm guessing you've checked your oil and coolant level? If the top end sounds 'tappy' like its starved of oil maybe the oil pick up pump has failed or the oil filter may be clogged? If you get it running check the water pump is running too. Reach for the tools and start investigating!
