I've suffered from a huge oil leak basically parked up yesterday afternoon and noticed a small puddle under the car took the dipstick out and very little oil in the car. Had a look this morning and it seems everything has leaked out now, dipstick is dry no oil at all.
Last drive was local in the City no major bumps or anything but in the space of 12 hours it seems everything has leaked out not sure what is going on.
I had the car serviced about 8 week ago, don't know if it is related or not. It's still not over 3 years old so under warranty. Can't start it or anything now as it will ruin my engine.
Anyone had any experience of something similar or any ideas what could cause such a leak the car basically has 0 oil left. All was fine yesterday morning just one big leak that has come out of nowhere.

Got VW Assist cover?
Need to get the car in the air to look underneath rather than guess. Either way it needs to be recovered to a garage!
-
No buddy don't have the VW assist cover. Rang my local VW up the earliest i can take my car in is next week which is a little annoying

Hit up @VWUKHelp on twitter. Explain that the car was just serviced and now is loosing oil. See if they can get another dealer to help.

VW are usually much better with a "car off the road" situation, so I am surprised at your dealer. Does he not want to stay in business? I'd put him under a bit of pressure on this! They should, at least, recover the car and have a looksee.
Who is it - do you mind saying?

Interested too, given it can't be too far away from me.

I'm in Halifax so it's the VW in Shelf part of the Sytner group

I don't believe their response is adequate. You should contact VW Customer Service, either here:
http://volkswagengroup.co.uk/content/sites/vwcorporate/volkswagengroup_couk/en/home/contact_us.html
or via the Twitter handle mentioned above. They are very good and usually get a very swift result!

Agreed with all above also an idea to check with the garage that did the service.. does or did the sump plug get replaced or fitted incorrectly or even loose....
Just an idea
-
I've been told I can bring it in anytime now and they will look at it as soon as possible thanks guys for the help
-
They were the same garage that did my service also I will mention this when dropping the car off.
-
Drop it off?
I would insist they pick it up, pronto.
Massive leak this soon after service suggests a mishap during service.
On another note - do you not get breakdown cover from VW if you stick to service regime and go to mains dealer?
You do in Germany and quite a few other EU markets - or have they already gone the same way Mondelez have with Toblerone?
-
Think you get vw assistance for the first twelve months only.
-

If as you say the dipstick shows no oil how do they expect you to drop it off!!
To put oil in is gonna cost £30 ish not sure exactly and for that to possibly run straight through I as already said it requires collecting on a recovery truck and if you so put the oil in and drive and lose the oil and the engine goes bang who's going to be at fault!!!!!
I would only assume your dealer won't take responsibility.
Not trying to put you off but requires thinking about
-
Had a similar thing on a family members golf took about 6 weeks and all of a sudden there was a puddle of oil turned out they had not tightened the drain bolt and it had come lost to the point it was left on the under tray 6 weeks later..

Good advice that, if you drive it and it goes bang they are going to say that you drove it knowing it didn't have oil.

Sorry to hear this, i had the very same experience.
2 weeks after a service and just as i was getting home the oil light came on. Parked up and discovered oil steadily dripping and accumulating along the undertray.
Apparently the gasket on the oil filter had 'failed' (not fitted correctly...?)
I filled with oil and it got me back to the dealer that did the service.
They rectified, steam cleaned the engine and replaced the oil i purchased.
I hope u get sorted to your satisfaction.

Sounds like the fitter didn't read the bit where he was told to put a drop of oil on his finger and rub it around the filter ring.
To those who are filthy, I'm not talking about a body part.

Thanks guys, must say very disappointed in VW this is an error caused by them for me they made the change 2 months ago.
I will get the car taken on a recovery truck and have it dropped off there. There is no oil and even if i top it up by the time i get there it will be close to half.
The least i expect them is to own up to their error, correct it and top the oil up but i can see me having to fight for this one as they don't seem the sort of bunch who will own up.
You guys have been really helpful today so thanks for the advice.

Get on VW's Twitter feed and complain. Nothing worse than a disgruntled customer to get a companies notice. I would also be asking why when your car clearly is not mechanically sound to drive that the dealership are asking you to bring it in. They sound like a set of Muppets and should be told so. Twitter is your friend 😃

Guys do you know if there is anywhere where i can see the underneath of the VW Golf GTD?
My car has been dropped off to VW yesterday on a recovery truck which i paid for.
The more i think of it the more certain i am this is related to my service done 2 months ago. Is the drain plug a plastic or metal one?
I have a feeling the branch will deny any wrongdoing on their part so what would you advise as the best approach for this.

Sump plug is plastic...

As Fred said above the plug is plastic now.
The way ahead is social media like Facebook and twitter and if your not on them, join them and get on there to both Synter group and VW UK. The one thing they all hate is bad press and people complaining.
Also don't let them move you to DM(direct messaging) if possible because they try to take it away from the public seeing it.
Bit late now but I should have thought of it sooner but an independent inspection of the car to see where the oil was leaking from would have been worth the money.

It doesn't matter if they deny any wrongdoing, if the car is under warranty, its under warranty. whether its something a technician touched or not. Unless its related to something you have done to the car, or wearable friction items/consumables.
However playing devils advocate, the dealer perhaps shouldn't be expected to come out to every breakdown of a car that long outside of service work (8 weeks) otherwise why would any of us have breakdown cover? Its likely related but they don't know this and going to pick up every customers car that doesn't have break down cover would be cost prohibitive. But having to hire a recovery lorry must be expensive with the likes of RAC, AA, Green flag, VW road side assistance or part of your insurance being so cheap these days...
-
.........but they will need to explain where the oil went. If there isn't a big hole somewhere, they will have a problem excusing themselves. As said, I think you need to get VW Customer Services involved, and the best way to do this seems to be via your social media of choice.

Just to update you all, i collected my car this afternoon. They have fixed it apparently a faulty washer on the sump plug.
There is no charge and will reimburse me the recovery truck fee.
Lucky that the issue occurred whilst the car was parked up and there is no long term damage. Annoyed it happened still.
Still thinking of a complaint letter to VW though

Good news.
I'd be of the view - mistakes happen. It's how the complaint is dealt with that I'd be concerned with. If the problem was dealt with promptly without fuss and minimal hassle (and it seems to have been in this case) then I'd leave it be and move on.

Congrats glad it's sorted and no more serious than a washer. .

I don't buy that at all, I would think the only way oil has come out like that is due to a sump plug not being fitted properly  Glad you are all sorted, that could have been an expensive repair.
-
Good news, but thinking that the dealer will be counting his lucky stars. He owes you, big time, so don't let up on him! Tell him you are considering your options about complaining to VW. All dealers are very dependant on their customer approval rating. Let him know you know that. What's complicated about a washer? Even a faulty washer shouldn't let all the oil out - if the plug was torqued up properly. They are spinning you one, but they will want to save face, so I would give them options.

The washers are just the usual collapsing type. I suppose it could be a faulty one but I doubt it, more lightly a faulty fitter.
Glad they are paying the costs but as you say the op has saved them big time.
-
Given the sump plugs are now plastic I wouldn't be surprised if they cross threaded it. It'll leak big time if so. Very much doubt the washer was faulty.
Good that they sorted it out though. The fact they offered to reimburse the truck suggests they know they've done wrong and been lucky.
-
Yes - as stated above, in this day and age the chance of a faulty washer are very remote. It will almost certainly be the fault of the dealership for not seating/fitting it correctly.
