Title: Golf mk3 indicators just staying on

Ok.... ok indicators are just staying on not blinking just staying on even whe key is out ignition,
Changed indicator really switch, checked all bulbs and bulb holders and still the same

Any ideas of what it could be,

Earth or broken stalks. If you unplug the stalks do they go off

what happens if you pull the relay out??? also, does it still switch from left to right(flashing aside)? what happens if you hit the hazard light switch?
