Hi
New to the forum, and have been away from the VW scene for a few years now - previously had 2 Mk3 GTI 16Vs, a Mk3 VR6, a Corrado VR6, a Mk4 GTI and a Mk5 R32...
Now on the hunt for a Mk6 GTI DSG to replace my Boxster. Something with up to 60k on it
I'm looking in the region of £10-12k, and I'm seeing some VW approved cars just over this and a number of private sales at similar prices for the same age car.
What's the view on prices? An approved used car will come with 12 months VW warranty and breakdown cover, 2 services and the 148 point inspection.
Are private sales actually shifting at these prices, or optimistic sellers?
Webuyanycar etc come up around £8500 for an 09 car with just under 60k on it which is advertised on autotrader at £12.5k...
Any info appreciated - hoping to be back in a golf within the next couple of weeks
Mike

If you can stretch the budget look at early mk7s

Thanks, but trying to keep man maths out of this purchase!
Mk7s are over budget, so a good mk6 is what I'm after

I sold my 09 (not DSG) privately 2 years ago and it was absolutely mint about 43k miles on. IIRC I got £11200 for it just to give you an idea

Thanks, good to know real examples

Bizarrely my old car is up for sale again 20k ish more miles on and only a drop of £700 in 2 years!!

I've been looking recently:
Early MK6 with or without new engine, from £8,500
Most expensive VW dealer about £14,500
Autotrader dealer from £10,000
Autotrader private, not many from £10,000 to £13,500 (the grey 3 door DSG one looks very nice)

Sold my 09 (DSG) privately with 110K miles on it, very good condition, for 12K.

I test drove a 10 plate 60k car at Western VW / GTI World in Edinburgh yesterday, but ended up choosing a slightly newer car.
The 10 plate (white, 3 door, DSG, adaptive dampers) is on at about £11.5k (with VW warranty, new brakes etc)
Ended up picking up a 38k mile red 61 plate instead, moving from an M135i. Which I'm still in the early stages of WTF / buyers remorse about. Fancied a change, wanted an auto, loved my old mk5 R32 and couldn't justify spending to mk7 levels.

Do the mk6 Gti's have adaptive dampers? Also what are the differences in the 'facelift' mk6 i keep seeing? Just DRL's?

Adaptive Chassis Control was optional on certain mk6 Golf models, including the GTI.
Although the mk6 had various build year updates and changes during it's model life, I don't think there was an actual facelift mid-way through the mk6 lifecycle. Although the mk6 Golf was marketed as a new model, it was actually a heavily face lifted version of the mk5 Golf.
As far as DRL's are concerned, all mk6 Golfs had DRL's from the start of mk6 production. GTI's and GTD's equipped with the optional xenon headlights used the dipped beam headlight as DRL's at the start of mk6 production, but the design of the xenon units was later changed (I think for 2011 model year) to incorporate LED DRL's. The 35 year GTI anniversary model had xenon headlamps incorporating LED DRL's as standard.
The GTI/GTD models also gained rear LED light clusters for the 2011 model year (from around build week 22 in 2010).
