Title: What options have people ordered on a Mk7.5?
Post by: fredgroves on 21 March 2017, 13:35
Just interested to see what people are choosing after we had the discussion about a surplus of vanilla performance Mk7 Golfs now coming up on the second hand market.

PS, when you vote, add a comment to bump the post up or it will get lost. Just a "voted" post will do, you don't need to tell me your spec, unless you want to :D

I've not voted as I've not ordered but if I did I suspect it would be 3dr DSG, prets, metallic paint, black mirror caps and that's about it. The only other option that would really interest me is the titanium exhaust and that's not been confirmed for UK and would very much be price dependent

Planning to order a new Golf R.

DSG, 5 door, Indium Grey, Sunroof, Keyless, 90% Tints.

Plan to take the 19's from my current R and have them refurbished in gloss black. Also planning to move my Carbon Mirror caps over to the new one.

New R is pretty well specced as standard with Nav & Winter Park so isn't asking for much. May add App-Connect at a later date.

May add App-Connect at a later date.

You get it included with the basic Nav (included in base spec on all performance Golf 7.5's)

No need to add :D

You are correct! I must have mis-read the brochure but re-reading now and checking the configurator. App-Connect is standard on an R! Brilliant! :)

I'm currently at a point where I'm dead-even on my finance so could PX and get a new FL car for not much more a month (+£40). The problem is nobody wants to touch the broker price I've got and brokers don't want a PX.

So I either wait it out until dealer deposit contributions go up. Sell privately or do nothing!

If you want to PX then Orange Wheels should sort that out for you. I know DTD say no DTD but the VW dealer they put you in touch with might look into offering PX if you are selling a VW. I will need to sell my GTI when my R arrives so will look into this option soon.
To be honest the Audi dealer who contacted me throw Orange Wheels gave me a lousy PX price for my GTI.
So ended up with a R on order through DTD.

That's outrageous in all respects!  Do these people not realise that with the internet these days they're going to be found out - and now no one on here (ie. Golf enthusiasts) in their right mind will ever buy a car from them.

So, so far...

18 vehicles listed,
  • 12 are DSG - surprises me, I'd have thought there were more retro purists - 32 years a manual driver! Wanted a change

11 are five door - more than I expected to see, or maybe more 3 door than expected? - Lots of family/Men/Women - 3 door for me

Least popular option - leather - again, I would have thought more of an uptake on this, despite its cost - Spec'd leather on the GTD, but never again, too expensive

Reversing cameras are still popular - I guess the cheapest option for some swank - Cheap and cheerful, what's not to like?

Dynamic lighting on one third of the 18, boy some people have money to burn :) - As long as the lights work in the dark, I'm happy

More DCC than 19's, which is interesting. I have DCC on 18's now, but wouldn't bother again I think. - First time on 19's, thought I'd regret it if I didn't spec. The roads are bad around me

Surprised that with automatic aircon anyone still pays for a sunroof :) but there are 5 here
- Have the sunroof on my white GTD. Looks good breaking up the white roof. Problems with rattles, so stayed clear this time

Altogether, rather interesting.

Keep em coming!

Newbie here - hello everyone! It's great to see such an active forum, I currently drive a VW CC and there's very little forum activity...

Just voted for my Mk7.5:

DSG
19s (Brescias - yes I wanted a clubsport really)
5 door
Other - Tracker (required by insurance - booo!)
Build week 10/04/2017... can't wait!

I know a lot of people say the rear camera is pointless, small hatchback, blah, blah... but having had it on 2 MK7's, I would NOT be without it. One of the first options I'd tick. It's a brilliant convenience, I'd lose the sensors before I'd lose the camera. Maybe I'm just sh!t at judging the car when parking but I find it invaluable, giving you an exact visual of where the bumper and the wall/obstacle is.

Other than that, I'd have to have:
5 door
19's
DSG
Keyless (another option I am used to now and would not have a car without it).

After that it's into "fripperies".

I have leather in the R. I think a car in that price bracket needs decent seats and the R's cloth seats just don't cut it IMO (I know I know, the VW leather is not brilliant but it looks far more premium to my eyes.). If there was a nice half alcantara/leather option I'd choose that instead though.

I have Nav in the R too and tbh I rarely use it. I could live without.

I don't have DCC but I'd be tempted to try it next time.
Same for Dynaudio.

Yeah its a lot. TBH I'd struggle to pay it for a new couch in my house but I readily paid for it in the car

As I said, a half/half option would be ideal - in fact a half leather/alcantara seat should be standard. People will disagree with me but the cloth seats, maybe the material used, I don't know - but they feel cheap and nasty imo.

19s, Brescias
5 door
Other none yet - but considering a black wrap for the roof, also on the front bumper the canard-y looking things, are they flat black? I might look into them being wrapped too.

Arriving next week!
Connor.
Title: Re: What options have people ordered on a Mk7.5?
Post by: andy28 on 23 March 2017, 15:48
Good choice on the wheels Connor!

The black detail on the front bumper looks matt black on everything I've seen (not gloss black like the clubsport). I was thinking about gloss black wing mirrors on my pure white gti but changed my mind when I realised they wouldn't match anything... wrapping would clearly sort that.

Please post pics when yours arrives to help me in my wait.

Cheers

Andy

Another bonus I forgot with leather is that the seats are heated. I LOVE the heated seats... I have them on every morning for at least 9-10 months of the year  Brilliant.

So if I didn't spec leather I'd need to have the winter pack anyway and that's what, 3-400?

Also anytime I see a MK7 dash with the heated seat buttons blanked off... it looks... cheap.

Dynamic lighting on one third of the 18, boy some people have money to burn :)
I'm sure people thought that about Xenons and curve lighting. Both our cars have those options and it is a great improvement on standard lights. Especially on twisty country roads. I'm hoping to see a significant improvement again with Dynamic Light Assist.

19" alloy wheels are for people who have money to burn. They are a purely cosmetic option. In fact I believe they make the ride worse and reviews have proved that the additional mass make the car slower   (Lights touch paper and stands back.)

Agree 19s were a purely cosmetic choice for me... unfortunately I felt the standard 18s on the GTI facelift (Parkers) were a step backwards vs the Austins so the 19s then became an essential extra ;-)

I did consider changing the alloys. The Parker alloys may not be the most stylish, but like previous GTIs, they are distinctive. I see them as an evolution of the previous design and understand that some people don't like change. However, they are the 'new GTI alloys'. From certain angles, car fans will be able to spot the 'new GTI alloys' long before noticing the new lights, bumpers or exhausts and badges. Therefore, I have decided to keep one of the things which makes the car look like a GTI.

Plus - I'll save money, they look easier to clean, replacement tyres are much less expensive, they should be quieter, more comfortable, more economical, reduced chance of tyre/alloy damage, perform and handle better.
Title: Re: What options have people ordered on a Mk7.5?
Post by: andy28 on 25 March 2017, 13:16
I can't argue with any of that Daz Auto and I really wanted to like them, particularly as you can't spec them on any other golf, they are indeed the GTI alloys as you say.

I'm sure they actually look better in the flesh too and I had only seen them online, but I had seen the Brescias on the Clubsport and liked them straight away.

Unfortunately as it was a cosmetic choice, I overlooked all of the important points you gave re cleaning, tyre costs, performance etc... I may live to regret that haha!

My Build date is 14 April, so my spec is locked in.  After a bit of tinkering....

Pure White GTD, 5 Door, DSG, Reversing camera, Climate Screen, Dynaudio, Keyless entry.

Decided against the dynamic assist, then decided I may go for it as the price seemed to have dropped, but missed the build window.  No biggie really as the standard LED's should be an upgrade on the Xenons.

I've ordered a deep pearl black, 3 door GTD with the dynaudio pack. It's a company/lease car so I'm reluctant to spend too much but I'm starting to regret not getting the tinted windows for the rear. Does anyone have experience with changing an order? It's due to arrive at the dealer mid June and it's a lex car, if that makes any difference.

You can amend your order up until it has a confirmed build date.

Does the Mk7.5 not come with tinted windows and the 90% tint is extra like the Mk7 was?

Yeah I think it comes with tinted windows but I think it would look well with the 90% tint at the rears with the black paint?

Wireless charging is quite expensive IMHO.

Camera, its hardly a requirement on a Golf, you have front and rear sensors and the all round vision is great. Easiest car I've ever parked tbh.

As for 90% tints on a black car... you say its a company car Tamzildj, is your "company" more of a "firm" and do you shift a lot of white powder? :D

Haha, I've since u turned on my 90% tints idea for that very reason and the fact someone said it will look like a van. I think I'll stick with the standard 65%

According to the latest price list brochure for the mk7.5 Golf, dynamic light assist is a no cost option on the GTI, GTD and R models (page 25 of price list), but.................it's only available in conjunction with Lane Assist which is a £630 option (page 30 of price list) and strangely, the price list states this option is specifically for 5 door models (so presumably you can't have it on a 3 door).

The new LED headlights are capable of doing Dynamic Light Assist. However, they require a camera to be mounted behind the rear view mirror. That only comes with other options i.e. Lane Assist or Lane Assist Plus.

I can find very little on how exactly Dynamic Light Assist works. This is my interpretation of how the system works. The camera is required to track other vehicles and even road signs. Each headlight is made up of dozens of LEDs. When another car is detected only a small portion of the main beam is 'dipped' in the direction of that car.

We are so used to thinking in terms of dipped/low beam and main/high beam headlights. Mercedes refer to their new LED technology as Multi-beam headlights. They can emulate the traditional low/high beam function, but they are capable of much more.

My final spec is now in my signature below. The only thing I have added is Art Velour seats.

I have the dynamic lights on my 7 and they are fantastic but if you don't drive on country roads at night much then I wouldn't bother.

The old mk7 xenon dynamic lighting used some sort of mechanical shutter mechanism for the beam masking. Not sure if the new led units work the same...

I live in the country so am looking forward to trying them.

This is the Mercedes system - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEVFoCvHN9U (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEVFoCvHN9U) It can even dim the light for the road signs

My parents have a Merc with LED headlights. They look very similar to the headlights in the facelift GTD I test drove.

Just voted.
I've gone for Indium Grey 5dr GTI DSG with DCC, Dynaudio & heated screen as definite options. Still in processing at the moment so currently wondering if i should add the camera and remove the wireless charging.

I've fortunately just been able to change my spec - so out with wireless charging and in with performance 245.
(also decided against the camera).
