Title: Golf GTi Mk3 8v Engine Rebuild *HELP*
Post by: sms-aka-me on 18 March 2017, 15:09
Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of having the engine rebuild in my 8v, has anyone had this done before?
Whats the general cost, time it takes and materials needed?

If you have had it done who did you bring it to?

IM based in the Midlands.

TIA

I wouldn't bother, there's a lot of the 8v engines around because people rip them out to drop in 20vt or vr6 etc.
I'd just swap the engine or head over.

Nothing wrong,
well actually there is a rattle, but I think its the exhaust has a hole somewhere.
I'm just thinking a rebuild will sort any hidden and potential problems.

I would just get a compression test done, oil pressure test, check it carefully for oil leaks, and if all that checks out ok, then I would leave well alone . they are pretty tough old lumps. what's the mileage on it anyway?

if you get 180-200psi compression readings, then that's all good. with the oil pressure, you should have 20+psi at idle with the oil temp at 80 degrees. but that depends what oil grade you're using. should be 10/40-15/40

They only thing I would do is put in new bottom end shells.
