Title: Any good deals on the MK7 out there?
Post by: greencode on 16 March 2017, 14:07
Just wondering what deals people are getting for the MK7? I'd be looking at buying outright or doing the PCP thing and cancelling and paying off after 1 day of ownership to get deposit contribution deals they may offer.

I know VW are knocking £3,250 off the price of the GTI and R but seeing what kind of deals other members are getting. I've specced a GTI out at £27k but would love to get it for a lot less than that.

Use CarWow, get the best quote and see if a dealer in your area will match it.

Problem with doing that is that the dealers who subscribe to Carwow and offer the good discounts will eventually give up if we then go to other dealers who do not subscribe and then we end up paying over the odds. Just an observation, as I have bought via Carwow.

i treid that carwow a dealer said he could do one at i think it was around 27k so i went there and he said they had stopped production in january so i couldnt get what i wanted ,that realy did give me the hump as he answerd the carwow add saying he could do me a car !

Yeah, not that great a deals on carwow. Quite disappointed. I think I'm going to have to settle for a used one. Not in any particular hurry but would have been nice to get a new one. Saying that I didn't think I was being that picky wanting a white one, performance and tech pack but there seems to be none on the used market.

Had a quick look on autotrader and found a few white GTI's with performance and tech pack, are you only looking for DSG or Manual? Annoying for me because white and red are the colours I don't like but they are the majority on there. Have a look:

2013 one with performance pack, no tech pack but got Dynaudio - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201702092139916?

2015 one with performance pack, no tech pack but got Dynaudio - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201703153313526?

2015 one (65 plate so MIB 2 Nav, also manual) with performance pack, no tech pack but got Dynaudio - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201703093108122?

2016 one, tech pack but no performance pack - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201701271726680?

2016 one with tech pack and performance pack (also leather and 19" alloys) - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201609097608147?

2016 one with tech pack and performance pack (19" alloys and DCC, no leather) - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201611049429938?

Thanks for having a look for me. I think I've gone mad looking at Auto Trader!

It was a manual that I wanted. I might end up waiting or calling around dealers and seeing if they have any new ones with this spec available - highly unlikely.

Oh then yeah the only one is the 65 plate manual one from Lookers. It doesn't have tech pack but it does have Dynaudio and Performance Pack. It's also MIB 2 navigation which people say is a big improvement over MIB 1 and better than the old Nav Pro.

Drive the deal offered me a much better deal than carwow.

Drive the deal offered me a much better deal than carwow.

Difference was about £400 for me (in Drive the Deal's favour).  Upon probing though, the offering dealer was Kent area (I'm in Yorkshire).  It was important for me to be able to collect and for the dealership not to carry out any prep work - my nearest dealership (I walked to collect) matched my best quote that wasn't quite as low as Drive the Deal, but worth the additional for the aforementioned reasons.

Have you tried vw.co.uk  website. Select used cars and go through the various options and see if they or a dealer has the car you're looking for.

Yeah, I've got an alert set up for that. Terrible search filtering on that site though.

Yeah I was very happy with the price all I did was build and spec it basically everything apart from PP sent the short code you get to a few dealers with an email stating my top budget was 28k had one 2 on the line agreeing to my price but obviously wanted to secure a deposit then I phoned Hayseldens where we got the wife's scirocco from asked if they had made a decision telling them I was serious and had 2 other dealers offering to take the order but 10 mins later Lee phoned back to confirm I went down the following morning a signed up all sorted...

I just got the email from Lookers about that. I've enquired, strange that they have no branches in the midlands. I do prefer the Clubsport over the new R and GTI so hopefully there's a good deal with the extras I'm looking for.

I so prefer the interior styling of the MK7 compared to the MK7.5. Also, the wheels. Maybe just me but think they've made the styling a little too fussy. Just a shame I can't find any deals on a new GTI

Sorry, I meant the MK7 GTI. Only deal is £3,250 off but there's pretty much no stock.

It was posted on here only 4 days ago that there are discounts in the region of £6-7K off the MK7 (outgoing model), just a case of phoning dealers and seeing what stock they have. I was at one recently that had several in stock. I get the impression that you keep looking for excuses not to commit, maybe wrong, but some people talk it and some people do it???
Title: Re: Any good deals on the MK7 out there?
Post by: greencode on 21 March 2017, 19:09
Ha. No definately ready to commit although, yes i am not used to spending this much on a car so just want it to be right. I've called a few local dealers and they had no stock so I'll just have to try further afield. What was the dealer you went to that had several in stock? Thanks.

Is it totally new as in 0 miles and 17 plate? Then yeah I'd say it is. Same price as they sell 16 plate ones with 6k miles on them.

Yep, new 0 miles (or maybe a few delivery miles), and would be a 17 plate.

Then yeah seems like a good deal to me. Just a note though, white is the 2nd most unpopular colour from what I've seen on the used car market and I think DSG is more popular than manual too. Could affect the used price when you get rid of it.

Interesting, where did you get those stats about colour and gearbox? TBH, if I did go ahead and buy it I'd be looking to keep it for around 4-5 years.

A quick look at Autotrader and I can only see 3 white ones on there from 2015 and those are £21k, £23.5k, £25k

Nice find. Just wondering whether they're reducing prices ready for the new MK7.5 and the April 1st new car tax rises? £26k is already £6k more than I was thinking of paying so I'm not sure my bank balance would agree to the Clubsport prices, even though they appear very good

It's just what I've noticed from looking at the prices on Autotrader for the past 7-8 months. There was a lot of standard white or red Golf R's around because that's what most lease cars are specced as, so their value depreciated quite fast.

Got it pre-registered (registered by 1 day and 67 delivery miles to my nearest dealer on the clock) for £25k. Standard spec but wow, you get a lot as standard. Absolutely loving it.

Just joined as I picked up on Friday:
66 plate GTI
PP
6800 miles
Ex dealer demo
Oryx (?) white
Pano roof
18's

Was up for £22900 and I signed up for the pcp deal so got £1000 off and 2x free services plus a years road tax.
Paid off the car the next day as I had cash.

Really good deal I thought.
My first VW and I'm very impressed. Such a comfy car with a good bit of poke when needed. Fantastic quality inside too and I've been loving that roof this weekend!

Did you get charged extra for paying it off the next day? Also what kind of checks do they do for PCP?

There is no charge. VW told me if it goes 14 days without being paid off you get a daily charge. But when I called VW finance they said you have 28 days until they start charging you.

No idea what checks they do. Probably standard ones. They wanted to know my monthly outgoings roughly and previous jobs and how long I had been employed in my current job.
I assume just to make sure you can make payments monthly.
