Title: Rear light cluster
Post by: Diehammer on 13 March 2017, 16:46
I have a bulb out on one of my rear light clusters. As far as i know they are all led so will this mean that the full cluster needs to be replaced?

I would've thought so but surely it would be under warranty?

You can take it to any VW dealer, they should cover it. In theory the individual LEDs can be replaced by someone who knows their way around LEDs and soldering stations however it's rather difficult to open the taillight enclosure as it is glued in a similar fashion to the headlights.

If it is under 3 years old VW will do it for you under warranty no need to even go to Arnold Shark.

The problem is that they are my local dealer after buying Inch. closest non Arnold Clark is about 20 miles away.

The light clusters are very easily swapped out. Even the most ham fisted dealer can't go too far wrong.

But if your main objectives are;
- not to let Arnold Clark anywhere near your car
- get your rear light fixed under warranty
then your options are limited and you may need to make the 40 mile round trip.

I don't use my nearest VW dealer (6-7 miles away), but use one which is nearly 30 miles away, because I get much better service there.

Only VW can do warranty work anyway so they either drive it 40 miles or you do. I know the option I would prefer.

Driving twenty miles to the dealer of your choice is hardly driving to the end of the earth surely.

Same here, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than use Parkway in Derby.

This weekend the outer rear light casing showed a hairline crack between the white and red stripes in the non illuminating section. No impact that I am aware of and not showing any impact mark. Anyone else had this fracture? Any hope it will be covered under warranty. It is the only flaw on my 11 month manual. Looks like a new unit is around £140(?)
