Title: Couple of small potential mods
Post by: Sootchucker on 13 March 2017, 13:09
Was bored last night so I was mooching around the web, and found these two potential small (insignificant) mods, and wondered what peoples thoughts were.

Illuminated Cigarette lighter surround

The second one is more for GTD and GT drivers I guess. It was discussed a few years ago about changing the colour of the LED lighting in the door card strip from White to Red (like the GTI has). One member said it could be done just by swapping wires overs, and he was ahem....shot down. I'd quite like this to tie in with the red footwell lights.

Anyway, saw this over the weekend and it got me thinking if that actually was the case. From the advert I saw here:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/GENUINE-Interior-Door-Strip-Led-light-Door-trim-strip-light-interior-atmosphere-strip-Led-light-for/32658330507.html

If you read the description, it says there are GENUINE Interior Door Strip Led light Door trim, and furthermore it says:

"Please note:You can change the led light colour to red or white.

If you want to get different colour ,you just need to connect the wiring connector with opposite way,so you can get red or white as you like. "

Anyone feel like being the first to try this

Not something I'm looking to do but you never know about the wiring thing. There are some bi-colour LEDs that work by reversing the polarity so it could actually be true.

Alternatively (especially if the reverse polarity thing doesn't work) an easier and cheaper method might be changing the LED to whatever colour you like.

As I think I said around the time the person shot the other person down for suggesting the LED door strips could be changed by fiddling around with the cables, the MQB Leon had the option of changing the LED colours from launch by pressing a button in the menu. Sport is red I think. I'll ask a colleague who has one later if I get chance.
So it could well be possible to hijack the polarity of the wires via VCDS/OBD11

Don't the SEAT Cupra ones change from white to red in sport mode. That must be a relatively simple bit of electronics.

That's what I said up there! ^^^
It's not just the Cupra model

Oops, not attending again. I just read Sootchucker's post and went straight into print! I was right, though, just right and a bit late. Sorry.

I think some audis have the multi color strips as well. It can be changed with VCDS, there are separate adaptation channels for different colors.

Ahh, this is what we need.
I wonder if that's something Don has looked into?
