Title: Advice on Used MK7 GTI PP
Post by: clarkeysntfc on 14 February 2017, 11:11
Hi Folks

New poster here, and just checking in for a bit of advice from those more knowledgeable than me so if you can help that would be super .

Looking at nearly new hot hatches to help avoid some depreciation. Contenders are: BMW M140i Auto, Audi S3 DSG (v likely over budget) and the GTI PP DSG.

There are a few GTI PP's with low miles on sale via VW dealers for around £25k with reasonable spec such as 19" wheels, leather and the Pro Sat Nav upgrade. I definitely want the 19" wheels for the looks. Is there anything else spec-wise I should definitely go with?

Question is, does ~£24/25k on a 16 or 66 plate with low miles represent a decent value purchase compared to the discounts available via new purchases?

I'm keen to avoid buying used at that price when I could have bought new for a similar. Any pointers on spec and expected price appreciated!

Its quite pricey for a 2nd hand one especially as it will be a Mk7 not a 7.5, you could do drive the deal and probably buy new for the same with a three year warranty (VW warranty is not transferable)

BUT you can't get a Mk7.5 GTI PP yet. No date even for the start of them in the UK.

Just like fredgroves has mentioned, visit drivethedeal.com and spec out a brand new one as a price comparison. I am in the same boat as you and I just couldn't justify saving a grand or two to get an older model. New new new!

... 4th May

If you have any potholes on your roads you may want to consider DCC with those 19 inch alloys. Read here - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=279772.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=279772.0)

Mate o mine just got rid of BMW M135i, too tail end happy in slippery conditions.
How about Golf R? plenty of new ones to be had with around £7K discount owing to MK7.5 being due. You can pick  one up for around £26K, or a very low mileage 16 plate for about £25K.

Hi.
As below I specced my factory build new 16 plate Gti and paid 28K on the configurater it came out at 35400k I got the short code you get once you have built it and sent it around the dealers I told them what I wanted to pay the 28K and that's what I got it for.
It does pay to shop around even new but you will get what you want at a price you want to pay. .

Thanks all - you have confirmed my suspicion that the low mileage GTI's aren't all that they may seem price-wise.

Almost none of them have the DCC option which seems surprising to me.

I've opened some dialogue with my local dealer and will see how that progresses.

Temptation with the M140i is that new ones can be had for £28/29k due to the large discounts BMW are offering, so the GTI would need to save me a fair chunk.

I'd have thought a DTD GTI-PP on 19's with NavPro and Leather would come in at around 28k

Unlike the BMW, you actually get loads of things on the base model too. An equivalent beeemer would be easily 6k more.

Not sure about that - the £28k/£29k (after discount) BMW includes Professional Nav, Harman Kardon, Auto Box, Heated Seats, Leather, Cruise, Parking Sensors etc etc.

I picked mine up from the Inchcape group. VW dealers around Manchester(ish). Under 6k mileage,3 door, dsg PP for £20,999. I had a look over the weekend and they still have some cracking deals on.
Also there is one for sale on the forum,65 plate with tons of extras for £19,999.

Thanks - seen that, looks like a stunning example... Alas it's 3 door and I need a 5 door for future proofing.

I went out with a friend of mine on Saturday in his M135i and infectious as the noise, the extra 100bhp and RWD is, it's quite a dull place to sit and be in.

Worst of all IMO, is that looking head on at the BMW, there's next to nothing to distinguish it from a 116d, apart from the silver wing mirrors.

Unless I'm mistaken, cruise on BM is a very basic version, unless you pay more. not adaptive like on VW.

You can have adaptive cruise on the 1 series, but it costs an arm and a leg. Its also only available on auto boxes - but a 140i is auto only I think.

It is part of a pack, none of which are cheap. I looked at a 125d M sport when deciding on my next car and I had it for 4 days as an extended test drive. I covered around 200 miles in it and dropped it back the day after I got it. It was not something I could comfortably drive, the dash wasn't nice and epically the nav bit sticking up

I take it the "Not" transferable is a typo? As its the car that's covered for 3 years or up to 60,000

To the OP, that kind of spec with Leather which is expensive and 19"s and Dicover Pro sat Nav is £27,650 from Drive the deal.
Drop the leather and it takes it to £26,098 which is not that far off what you were looking at 2nd hand.
Although as fredgroves has pointed out, there is no sign of it. It may very well be like the MK7 and not appear for a while, if at all.

That's right and from the side it looks even worse! Utterly hideous.  And according to Clarkson you can't transport a nuclear warhead in the back and rear seat passengers need their legs cutting off before they can get in.  Then there's the image

The standard warranty is fully tranferable, even the factory extended warranty is full transferable (you will have to get in touch with VW UK to make them aware of ownership change).

I never knew that about the warranty - I just assumed it wasn't transferable as I thought Kia were the only ones who let you do that...

Standard warranties are always transferred to the new owner, whether that be VW, Honda or Ford. People would avoid nearly new cars if they came without the remainder of the standard warranty and only had a 12 month dealership warranty when bought one year old.
