As the title states "has anyone ordered a New Golf GTI or R?
If so what deals are being secured and on what delivery time frames?
During my own research I have found DTD are smashing all other brokers out of the water on Performance Golfs. Dealers are holding tight on their prices though
I'm presently looking and have configured my ideal spec but don't want to pull the trigger so early in the run out of the FL model so will reluctantly hold fire for the time being.
In the meantime can anyone give me any advice on the Dynamic Chassis Control option. I intend to spec 19" wheels on my car and would like to hear owners views who have experienced DCC and if they would spec it again.
Cheers guys
-
Drive the deal certainly are filling there boots at the moment but delivery times will suffer as a result as they will run out of allocation.
Delivery times I would hope every retailer should be quoting 12-16 weeks until we here any further details in the coming week as to what if any FL cars are delayed due to demand for certain trims.
Dynamic chassis control is a fabulous option and one that I would certainly advise on a Golf with 19inch alloys thats from personal experience having driven any and every Golf trim over the last 9 years at VW. It is also an option many of our used car buyers are looking for when buying a 2nd hand golf so we would value the car with that in mind. 19inch wheels on there own are not a such good thing on the 2nd hand market however when spec'd with DCC its becomes a real turn on for buyers.
I would even have it on a car with 18inch alloys personally because the roads I driven on are pot hole ridden and speed bumps scattered everywhere.
I guess you have to put extras in priority order, for example if you had a £1500 to spend on options what would be the first box you tick........ for me it would be Colour choice, Dynaudio, DCC then Sunroof for example.

Why not just order from DTD and get it sooner?
-
Why is the new R and GTI not on the VW site yet?

Looks like it is to me?
They are all under "new Golf" instead of being under performance golfs......

Ah. How confusing....why have Performance Golf and New Golf with the R under it.

My experience with DTD is that they are good on price, but cars were not available for several months. I've learned that it is best to ask if they actually have cars available. 'Newcardiscount' and carwow are very good.

going in this weekend to see what delivery times are plus need to see if they will give me guaranteed trade in price

Dealing direct with a dealer that is competitive is also even better
The problem with DTD is like you say they over sell there allocation of cars so you will place an order that actually doesn't get accepted by the factory because the dealers they use are over subscribed.
-
Keep in mind that delivery times tend to be on the pessimistic side, last new one I got was told mid June, took delivery end of April.

I would be happy enough to deal with a competitive dealer again, worked just fine when I bought the GTD

My experience is the opposite. Got my GTD in the same lead time as any dealer round my way and got me my R in less time than the dealers round my way.
Not to mention £5k off list price
They are just a broker and pointing you towards a dealer so not sure what your comment "Have cars available" means.

Really? Do you reckon its that good?
Its never something I've even considered as even with 19" alloys I think the Golf drives just fine.
Does it work on potholes and speed bumps? I thought it was geared up for bumpy / uneven roads and hitting a pothole or driving over a speed bump wouldn't give that much benefit.
It seems to be a marmite thing. I've read so many people saying they would drop that option and others saying its the best thing since sliced bread
-
So if you order an R and its registered after April 1st when the road tax rules change, how much will a years road tax be? Is it £500?
Also the same question how much for a Gti?
Apologies if this has already been covered and thanks!

Carwow only have low spec and Golf R available to spec at the moment and it is interesting that DTD's recommended VW dealer is quoting on Carwow

DCC is top of my options list. I would not have a performance Golf without it. The roads round me are really poor though.
Fascinating to read how it is sought after in the second hand market.
Its never something I've even considered as even with 19" alloys I think the Golf drives just fine.
Have you ever owned an ordinary/comfortable car?
My wife's A3 is a lot more comfortable than the Mk7 GTI with DCC which I had a test drive in. It does not handle as well though.
Didn't the Clubsport S use adjustable suspension set to Comfort mode for the Nurburgring FWD record?
-
Standard suspension on the GTI with 18's is perfect.
My 2006 Audi A3 S Line was pretty terrible and felt like it was going to snap in two if you hit a speed bump or pot hole.
You don't need DCC with 18's.

I noticed exactly the same thing every time I tested the previous A3 S Line. I did back to back runs on the same roads and the golf was the better ride and both on 18's

Yeah I've owned plenty of ordinary / comfortable cars. Try and take them round a bend at any kind of speed and you realise they are built for comfort and not speed
If your wifes A3 is a lot more comfortable than the MK7 GTI with DCC does that not tell you the DCC isn't all its cracked up to be? There are loads of posts where folk are questioning whether there's actually works or not.
My wife's GTI without DCC is really comfortable. I still can't see how DCC would help with a pothole or speed bumps?

Completely agree. The A3 SE 1.6 TDI was bought for comfort and not speed.

The adjustable chassis control (ACC) on my Mk6 GTD definitely works. My brother recently traded in his Mk4 TDI for a Mk6 GTI. He comments every time he is in my car that it is definitely more comfortable.
I sometimes set the suspension to sport. If I forget to switch it back - as soon as I reach the roads near home I notice the difference straight away.
I had a Mk7 GTD with standard suspension for a weekend test drive. I knew by the time I had driven the car home that I didn't like the suspension on my roads. Recently I took a Mk7 GTI with DCC for a short test drive. I noticed the difference straight away. It really does absorb the bumps better and the car still feels planted in corners. Like I said, I would not buy a performance Golf without DCC.
My wife's GTI without DCC is really comfortable. I still can't see how DCC would help with a pothole or speed bumps?
We live in a rural location and the roads are really poor - bumpy, twisty and narrow. As I said above, a Mk7 GTD without DDC was really uncomfortable on our roads. My wife didn't like it either.
Unfortunately, my wife won't move somewhere with better roads  At least VW offer DCC which helps, but it is still not going to be as comfortable as our A3.

Its probably one of those things that if you've never had it, you won't miss it. So I can see why you would want to make sure you specced it on your next performance Golf.
I can see how it will help in bumpy / uneven roads but how will it differ from potholes and speed bumps which has been specifically mentioned above?
-
DCC does work on rubbish road surfaces and is better than just having hard or soft suspension
Your "comfort", "normal" or "sport" settings are just initial damping. On comfort it will ride like a big car over bumps, potholes and speedhumps, but chuck it into a bend and the sensors will detect the loading and stiffen it so you don't get body roll like a 2CV.
Its called Dynamic Chassis Control for good reason - its not the older electronic suspension setting selector.
Its very clever, its very good.
Like much modern tech, some people don't trust the witchcraft, others accept it as a miracle.

Is it any different than the DCC in Passat CC? If it is the same then it brilliant. I leave it in comfort mostly, normal when in the twisties and sport when on twisties in Europe. I would have loved it in the Golf I'm getting but there wasn't one left in the colours I wanted.

Who is DTD's recommended VW dealer? I'm looking to put an order in for the new GTI but no dealers near me can even get close to DTD's prices.

They don't just have 1 dealer. They have a few over the country.

I don't suppose you know any of the dealerships?
-
As the previous post mentioned they use multiple dealerships, Kent might be an option.

I'll just order direct through DTD, I can't believe how cheap they are.

It has never been really understood that the DCC evolved into something very good and most who criticise it do so from having the previous versions or from never experiencing it at all.
The DCC is functioning at all times and in all modes and the difference is noticeable between each one.
Have done a lot of miles in colleagues vanilla GTI over last 2 years and when he was in my GTD and now my R he in reverse openly admits the ride is great.
The standard ride on the MK 7 are decent so not going to contest its a must have as ride would be atrocious otherwise but on some of the poor winter roads you find the DCC takes all the pain out of them.
Now I am not sure the tech has advanced more, imagine it has, but had 18" on the GTD and now 19" Pretoria on the R and would say the comfort is even softer on the R (maybe due to lighter wheels?) which surprised me as thought with larger wheels and 5 cm drop the ride would have been tad harsher.
When place in race the ride noticeably hardens up with the steering.
Its great tech, gives you the comfortable family run around (regularly have passengers) and the fast sure handling car that lies at its heart with a push of a button.
-

Thing is, it's not even that.
It's fast sure handling ALL OF THE TIME.
You just get a smoother ride over bumps while in a straight(ish) line if you want to. Your choice.
This is why I keep saying that the infamous Top Gear Stig comment about the Mk7 having the same lap times no matter what the DCC is set to isn't "and therefore it doesn't do anything" its quite the reverse!

Unfortunately, some people watch that show and believed those idiots! There is a very good reason why it makes no difference on a racetrack.
The car has a sensor to detect lateral movement. IIRC above 0.6G the suspension is automatically stiffened to improve handling.
So trying the system on a racetrack was pointless.

Does any suspension geek know if this is the same or similar to Koni's FSD dampers?
-
Just seen on the R forum someone post up prices from a website called Nationwide cars. They are quoting a new FL 3dr R at just over £25k

DCC on a Golf is actually Monroe CVSAe.
Don't know if that helps you discover your answer...

Here's a snippet from a review of nationwide cars:
"Remember that you don't get your Reg Doc for a few months and you will then be shown as a second owner. Or at least that's how it worked 18 months ago."
f**k that!
-
Wouldn't be hard to check out the point as regards preregistration if ordering.
-
Just ordered the wife a Lapiz blue 7.5 R 5-door manual with DCC, sunroof and keyless, from DTD at a price that no dealer could come anywhere near.
-
When are you expecting delivery for the R?
-
DTD estimated 16 weeks, and so did the dealer. I do not yet have any means of tracking it.
-
Which dealer did they put you in touch with? I will be ordering through DTD.
-
They ask that that is kept confidential. But it was a main dealer and not in the back of beyond.
-
I understand, I will have to find out when I put the order in this week. I'm so excited!
-
I ordered a R through dtd to replace the gti pp I currently drive on the 9th of Feb and have a build week commencing the 6th March so it could be much sooner than initially expected. They do use multiple dealers so you will find out when you order. This is the second time I have used dtd and cannot fault them.
-
Do you know how long is expected between build week and delivery, diolch yn fawr?
-

Just specced one up on that website - 20% off  That can't be right, surely?!
-
About to pull the trigger on my new R. Getting back into VW at just the right time it seems.
5 DR, DSG, Tornado Red, Black Pretoria, Black Mirrors, Keyless, Discover Nav Pro, Dynaudio, Rear View Cam, 90% tints.
Keep changing my mind on the colour though. Loved red on the GTI but it went better with the red lines, if memory serves the R has some blue/black badging and headlight lining?
-
No there's no blue detailing on the R's exterior at all. Only the interior - needles, ambient lighting etc is blue.
Someone on here has or had a red R and I remember it looked stunning in his pics.
-
Needles? None, I believe.

Not sure about these guys. I just spoke to them and they are quoting a 25 week delivery time! That's crazy long. But yes the price seems correct.
Also it's not like DTD, where they put you in touch with a main dealer and then from there on you deal directly with the main dealer. With nationwide cars, you deal with them throughout the process, meaning they could easily shuffle your order as they please I think.
-
Getting back into VW at just the right time it seems.
A great time to buy but the resale on them is going to be massacred even further with deals like this on new ones.
Still, it's all relative.

It's done 🙂 I have been told before 30th June but they will get in touch with me over the next few dates to give me a more accurate date. When is your arriving?

In 6 sleeps time and at 9.30am...trying to keep myself busy so time just breezes past

What sort of % discount did you manage to get on it? If you don't mind me asking. You've got the facelift right?

I would have arranged to collect earlier but they have other handovers in the morning. I'm also not going to have time to get my exhaust fitted because I'm busy in the afternoon and rest of the week. On a plus side the GTi rear trim is only £77 from the dealer.

Wondering if anyone has had any quotes from main dealers and what level of discount is being offered. VW Ireland have bumped up prices for 7.5 by over 5 % . I was offered a 2.25% discount off list for a well speced car - won't be doing a deal at that discount

Yes that was from a dealer, took the best part of a week to get there. Mine is being built week commencing 3rd April. So ETA will be around 10 weeks from order date.
